How often do you clean your MAF?

Title says it all, how often are you all cleaning your MAF? I am noticing I get an engine light every so often due to a dirty MAF, resulting in a quick 20minute clean job.

I'm curious if that is normal or if it is time to replace my sensor.

what air filter are you using? are you still running the factory airbox without any modifications?

I change my air filter with a Denso every 10k and have cleaned my MAF once in my almost 2 years and 25k of ownership. Clean it when I got the truck because I figured, why not? Sitting at 248K currently. Maybe its time for a new MAF?

Once in 125k yet I'm probably ocd about air filters - also there was no reason to do another maf clean just ocd after 125k.....I also run startron: Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment This stuff is awesomely powerful and inexpensive. Cheaper by the quart on either ebay or amazon. It may also contribute to the MAF and soforth staying clean. :cowboy:

Hate to say it but it has been a while since I've swapped the air filter :doh:. Although when I've had this issue before the air filter was pristine. The MAF typically has a black coating on the part that looks like the head of a match.

Airbox is stock. I've always used air filters from Toyota in the past. Will be getting a K&N for my next one as I no longer get a discount.

I would recommend sticking with OEM paper filters. They filter a lot better. If you really want washable I highly recommend going with a dry filter. K&N filters use oil. The oil clogs and kills mafs. They get super dirty due to the oil.

Sorry man, I don't think the fuel treatment is keeping the MAF clean. Think about the order of the MAF and the fuel coming into play in the engine.

I agree. Paper is the way to go.

You're right but it does keep alot of the other innards clean. Must be the ocd paper air filter changes keeping the maf clean. Oh and it does see lots of fine dust at deer lease every couple weeks. woohoo! :cowboy:

From a professional standpoint, cleaning the MAF is a hit-and-miss job. I sell the cleaner, but about half of the time, it needs to be replaced rather than cleaned. I had a corolla that chewed through MAFs and someone told me it was because of the K&N filter that I had installed. Not sure if that's the case or not, but I suppose it's possible.
