How often do you use 4Wheel Drive?

The reason why i bought this guy is for 4WD! I use it when its needed. Snow, sand, mud :biggrin2:

One other note on hydroplaning and tires... the worst tires for hydroplaning in my experience were BFG AT's. New, used, different trucks... easily the worst hydroplaner I've had.

The reason? No circumferential groove to evacuate water. If you are in an area with a lot of rain than your tire really needs to have an uninterrupted, circumferential groove that runs around the tire to help evacuate water.

Now, that said, those circumferential grooves can inhibit offroad traction. So it's all about finding a tire with the right compromise.

Don't worry about the wear and tear. The V8 is in 4H all the time.

does anyone that run their V6 4x4 in 4wd all the time know what kind of gas mileage they get? tryin to see if buying th V6 4wd and leaving it in 4wd all the time would save any on gas compared to just buyin a 4wd V8. thanks!

My 4runner doesn't have 4wd but my PSD does and I only use it when I go mudding with friends or when I wanna race some one between lights. My truck has a on the fly 4wd system. the truck can be moving and I can engage it (4wd hi) all I gotta do is have my foot off the gas pedal. I don't know if the V-6 4runner has this feature.

This thread is quite interest. I will start using from time to time my 4WD. Last time i use it was back in February in Philadelphia during winter... Let see how it goes now here in San Francisco's weather...

I have a Limited so I am always in 4Hi. However on our 96 4R we engage the 4wd system montly or when I remember. Of course the 96 isn't meant to be drivin in 4x all the time (dry pavement.)

But if you choose to leave your 4th gen V6 in 4wd all the time shouldn't you do the same for lubrication....that is turn off the 4wd once a month for lubrication in case you want to switch back to 2wd? I know it's a stupid question but thought I'd ask...

^^I didn't know this^^. Now that I do, I will turn it on more frequently. I only use 4HI 3x/year (if that). I won't even use it in rough conditions unless I really need it.

shuly its not the fact that you have a limited that makes it full time... thats the 5th gens.... its that you have a V8.

I guess mispoke...I know the V8's are Full Time 4x. I meant because I have a Limited V8 Which is of course the same as saying I have a V8.

I don't know about all 4th gens but I beleive it is true for all of them. I know that for the 2007s (at least) the V8 is full time 4x with a Torsen Center Diff.

They did. The 4th gen you can get a V6 or V8 in 2WD or 4WD.

correct i have a V8 2wd.... its just if you have a V8 and it is a 4wd that it will be full time 4wd. V6's 4wd is selectable
