That is really a gnarly story. I'm glad everyone walked away fine. In all honesty, had I read that thread prior to purchasing my Treadwrights, I probably would have not purchased them. However, since that thread hadn't been started until after I was already running them, they are what I'm running. That thread makes me want to pay even closer to tire pressure, but I do have to say that I have been nothing but impressed with mine so far. I've got about 14,000 miles on them, and they have a lot of tread left. They are wearing evenly, and aren't too noisy (except just after a rotation).
I do believe that Treadwright Tires are good products, and the retreading process (search youtube) they use is the exact same as brand new tire manufacturers. The only difference is that Treadwright uses an old sidewall. My concern was never that the tread would separate on the tires, but that the sidewalls would be damaged/weak from previous use. However, I specifically requested Goodyear MTR sidewalls, which I've seen take some serious abuse and be fine.
To each his own. I hope I never see another thread like the one above.
