How to air back up for street driving

I have a quick question about how best to air back up after going off road. I have a good 1.5 gallon crafstman air compressor for home use, would it work well enough with a power inverter to air 4 tires back up for road driving? Or should I look into getting a compressor specifically designed to work off the car battery? If you think the power inverter would work is there a particular kind you recommend that could best handle the power draw from the compressor? If you recommend a compressor designed to work with a car battery - what type do you use/recommend?

Another option, would be CO2.

I use a Viair 12v compressor. It's like the smallest one they make, but I can air all 4 of my 33" tires from 10psi to 30psi in 10 minutes. It gets kinda hot by the time I'm done, but it gets the job done. I've thought about setting up a tank to use with it, but haven't really had the need for it yet. Viair compressors are pretty popular for a reason. I can't remember what I paid for mine, but it was reasonable for such a good compressor.

I've been using a Masterflow 1050 for about 3 years now. Works great, it actually takes more time to air my tires down than it does to air them back up.

Well I ordered the MF-1050 from Wallyworld. Should have it sometime next week. Figured it would be easier to return there if I have any problems. Also saw in the customer reviews over on Amazon that I may need to make a few minor mods to this unit.

The MV-50 and the MasterFlow products are inexpensive and people have used them for a while now with good results. There are other options out there as well if you think you might be going to Air Lockers in the future you might want to look into a higher end unit and mount in the truck. Then as you progress your build you add a tank, then add Air lockers and you are set. (No you don't need a tank to run an air locker) The tank just helps keep a steady flow for airing up your tires later.

I currently run a "The Source" brand 10# CO2 tank that you can get from TRDParts4U.com in the $210 range. If you want the better adjustable regulator then add about 100 more. I am planning on adding an air compressor and tank to my vehicle to run ARB's in the future.
