I would like to know if the refills are available too. I would guess any brand blade refill would fit. I used the Michelin blades on my old SUV for years and I will buy them again until I find refills for the original wipers.

Edit - I was making an order on Amazon and I found the blade refills there!

According to my dealer (yesterday) Toyota no longer sells JUST the inserts or refills. You have to buy a whole new "wiper blade" which includes the fixture holding the rubber. They are $19.50 at the dealer regardless of year, make, model.

I was hoping to find Toyota refills somewhere. Anyone know of a place you can still get them?

I went to my local Toyota (Canada) dealer last week to have my wiper inserts replaced. They are still available up here, and the Parts Manager installed my refills in a matter of a few minutes. Both the 24 inch driver's side and 20 inch passenger side refills were the same price.

I have different assemblies - maybe they are all weather assemblies or something?? The are not the sightline version they sell now and I see on most 4runners. 85212-YZZ1J-TM & 85212-YZZ1F-TM

I have:
85212-yzz79-tm - right
85212-yzz74-tm - left

We have a 2012 limited with 52k mi. on it now. We bought it used about a year ago - I assume this was the first blade change.

The blades have rubber covers that slide on both sides of the fastener clip.

I can tell you it is a pain to put the refills on (85214-60130 & 85214-60140). They fit but it is crazy tight sliding them on. You have to pull the rubber covers off to make it easier. I found it easier to slide the rubber on then the metal inserts. You stretch the rubber too much trying to slide them on as a complete assembly.

You can get the refills for $6-8 ea. online everywhere

Below is what I was the quoted for refills from Bell Lexus North Scottsdale, AZ which I have been dealing with lately- good guys to deal with and normally good prices. I bought mine for more about $8 ea. I saw them as low as $5.75 ea.

Totally agree. Toyota oem parts are far better than the aftermarket. I learned that with my FJ62. OEM stuff was much better manufactured and lasted longer.

My original wiper blades lasted over 3 years and 45k miles!!
I just swapped them thanks to your post.
Not trying to compare, but mine were like 8.45 each.
Not trying to brag, just highlighting that there are different prices out there.

My factory wiper blades bit the dust today after almost 60k miles. Impressive! I cannot ever remember having wipers that worked this well for this long. As many of you know, I change just about everything on my vehicles, LOL, so it may come as a surprise that I am using factory replacements. They work!!

I figured I would throw this quick how-to up for those that aren't aware of how easy this is. Lord knows what the dealer is charging to replace the inserts. Do it yourself and same some dough. I paid $23 for both inserts, but I'm sure you could order them online cheaper. I needed replacements ASAP with snow on the way!


These are the part #'s for the wiper inserts. The driver's side (6140) is a little longer.





The easiest way to change these is to remove the wiper from the wiper arm. Both sides remove and install exactly the same, but do one side at a time so you don't mix them up (remember driver's side is longer).


The following shows the passenger side wiper...





Pull up on this hinged tab with your finger.






Lift up slightly on the arm and slide the wiper down the arm a little bit.







The wiper will slide off the hook of the arm.







This is the worn out blade.







Locate this end of the wiper. The rubber is wider and you can see where the frame is holding the rubber in place.







Squeeze the rubber and pull the blade out. (DO NOT squeeze the metal rods, or any part of the frame!), just the rubber blade. It doesn't matter if you rip the rubber, it's trash anyway.







Take a good look at the old blade and the new blade. Situate them so they are facing the same direction.

Remove the metal rods from the wiper blade and insert them into the new blade.











This is the new blade before and after the metal rods are installed.








Start to slide the new assembly back into the frame. The thinner end goes in first.









This picture shows the blade NOT fully seated.







This is the fully seated (done!) wiper blade.









Time to re-install the assembly.



Line the wiper up with the arm like this.








Slide the wiper down the arm and then back up the arm so the hook falls into the hole on the wiper .










Close the tab by pressing firmly into place.











Now do the same thing for the other side. All done!

Wasn't that easy? 10 minutes at most!

Tip

I experienced a freak accident while replacing my blade today. When I removed the blade, the arm came down hard enough to put a crack on my windshield. Apparently the spring is strong enough to come down and cause a crack. I recommend to place a folded towel on the windshield to prevent that from happening to others.

Just did this in maybe 5 minutes tops, so incredibly easy. Asked the dealer out of curiousity at my last service and they wanted $50 to do this... no way.

This was also much better done with just the inserts rather than entire new assemblies like I used to do on past vehicles. Replaced these after a year, inserts still seemed in decent shape but I had a bad experience with old wipers digging ruts into my old truck’s windshield so not letting that happen again. They’re cheap so why not keep them fresh?

My intent was to just replace the rubber inserts on my wiper blades just like you all did but I noticed that I had aftermarket wiper blades that came on my truck from when I bought it used. I bought the genuine OEM blades for about $20/ea + shipping and they came with the rubber inserts. Only took me 30 seconds per side and talk about a night and difference. The OEM blades look more aerodynamic and fit the windscreen much better than the aftermarkets ones that were on there. Now in a few seasons I can just buy the inserts.

For the people out there driving in snow regularly - has anyone gone down to a 19" blade on the passenger side?

The blade sticks off the windshield at the curvature by about an inch and ice builds up and causes it to freeze and not clean the rest of the windshield properly.

I'm tempted to try out a shorter blade this winter.

I got into a huge argument with the local Toyota service writer because he insisted that there was no wiper refill. The argument lasted, eh, five minutes. He insisted I had to buy the wiper itself. So I came on here and looked up the part number, gave it to him and he refused to order it.

Wrote them a bad review, the GM called and offered to pay me back for the wiper and send me an insert. He insisted it was extremely difficult to change out. It took me thirty seconds.

God, I hate my local dealership.
