How to change a #@$%ing light bulb in ceiling fan?

So this ceiling fan is about 20 feet above my living room. Seller or whoever put in some weak crap bulbs that don't like the dimmer feature on the fan's remote, and one of them has gone out.

I have an extension ladder but no matter where I rest it, I'd be leaning several feet away from the ladder and working one handed (doubt I could even reach then)

I know there are bulb changing grappler things with extension poles, but there's a large heavy glass globe to contend with first.

Totally going LED on the replacements so I can avoid doing this again in my time here.

You rent a ladder in home depot and do it.
I converted all my house for leds about 3 years ago and at least 3 is dead despite philips 30 years life span, replaced all burned in home depot without receipt. INTERESTINGLY THAT NONE OF GENERICS BOUGHT OFF EBAY BURNED YET.

You could rent, or borrow a couple sections of scaffold, or a really tall step ladder.

or you can put a couple 2x4 on hand rails and stand on it. use a rope to secure 2x4 to the rail so it won`t slip.

I have exactly the same rails and it holds me just fine, 285lb give or take. and yes I have damn light too. did it more than once.

Buy a pole saw. Cut the ceiling fan off at the base. Never worry about the bulbs again.

Seriously though, you could look into getting a "scaffolding" type of ladder. My dad has one that folds up like this |\/|(just tighter), but can be arranged like a normal ladder /\, or like a scaffolding platform |__| (<Imagine this just the other way around). You could maybe use it in the last configuration to let you have a platform under the fan with the legs resting on the floor on the room side of the railings.

Don't be an idiot. Either buy or rent the appropriate ladder, or hire an electrician with the proper equipment. Your wife and family will thank you.

Once you rent the right ladder to do the work, invest in the correct downrod that brings the fan down to where it actually does some good and allows for lamp changes from a more common ladder.

Go to the orange or blue store with wood and tools and get a 22' telescoping multi-position ladder. I have vaulted ceilings and just had to go around changing the smoke detectors last week. I have one and use it all the time.

The alternate would be to throw 4 or 5 2x4s caddy corner ON THE FLOOR between the balusters thin side up screw a scrap of 2x4 on each end of the 2x4's with 2 - 3" drywall or deck screws in each 2x4 to secure the whole setup. Then you can throw a 2 x 4 foot piece of 1/2" plywood on top of where you will be working.

The older candelabra LED lights were crap. The ones at Costco in the last two years are better made. I have them in all my ceiling fans (18 bulbs total) and not one has burnt out. They are also dimmable.
