How to change a #@$%ing light bulb in ceiling fan?

The alternate would be to throw 4 or 5 2x4s caddy corner ON THE FLOOR between the balusters thin side up screw a scrap of 2x4 on each end of the 2x4's with 2 - 3" drywall or deck screws in each 2x4 to secure the whole setup. Then you can throw a 2 x 4 foot piece of 1/2" plywood on top of where you will be working.

The older candelabra LED lights were crap. The ones at Costco in the last two years are better made. I have them in all my ceiling fans (18 bulbs total) and not one has burnt out. They are also dimmable.

I have one of these Little Giant "Skyscraper" ladders. 21 ft. tall in the A-frame configuration. It's a real beast to set up but once you get it in place it's the most stable ladder I own.

The picture is from a rental company website - maybe you can find a local rental place that has one. Barring that, most big rental yards have 16 ft. fiberglass or aluminum ladders that might work.

Freak occurrence of third bulb being lit.. but you can see that putting a board across the rails would have to be done at the widest point to be under the fan. Would suck to die changing some light bulbs.

Once you rent the right ladder to do the work, invest in the correct downrod that brings the fan down to where it actually does some good and allows for lamp changes from a more common ladder.

I wish, but dropping it 0-4 feet = slicing people's faces in loft, and any more than that means it'll be spinning an inch away from the railing

Every household must have one of these. I do. but my ceiling too high.

I think the 26' that Home Depot rents is 26' when opened up like an extension ladder, not set up as an A-Frame. Might ask before you drag over there to pick one up.

Yeah, that was my initial thought and actually the reason I posted this thread... because I didn't believe a 20+ foot ladder in A frame mode existed. Not sure why I convinced myself of otherwise last night, the Home Depot options certainly are not it.

So uhh that leaves renting scaffolding to change some light bulbs, or sticking tap lights all over my living room and leaving the fan light off :biggrin1:

Tough to tell from the pics, but is there enough room to slide a 2x4 through between the slats of the railing? Diagonally.

My friend who used to paint would rent a couple of levels of scaffolding to paint areas like that. I have an entry that soars like that. We seldom turn the stupid chandelier on. There used to be a company (really one guy) that specialized in changing up high bulbs and washing the windows up there and was really cheap. The Home Depot ladder would work for me because mine is only 17' to the ceiling. I have a 13.5" garage ceiling that is still not painted but I've managed to change bulbs on it a couple of times.

What is the distance from the bottom of the fan to the floor. From what I can see in the pictures it's about 17'.

Not hard to find ladders for rent that will reach that, if that is all you are dealing with.

Giving the fact that a lot of time has passed since the last comment on this topic, I want to write down here about how to change a light fixture on a ceiling fan, for anyone who's interested.
