How To: Convert RAS to Coils

Did y'all throw them away? Wouldn't matter if they would hold air, just need the metal base for the shop to use to build the spacer.

Austin may still have them I'm not sure. I know I didn't bring them back with me after the install of my new suspension

I see both of you have done this swap. Do either of you happen to still have the air bags laying around? I am looking for something cheap/free (I'd pay shipping), so if you still have them let me know and maybe we can work something out. I'm going to try working with a local machine shop to fab a spacer for the rear. I'd like to have an air bag I could drop off at the shop to have them use for this instead of having to remove the ones on my 4runner.

I still have them, pretty positive. but I would like them back, just in case I decided to revert, but I like your idea. Maybe we can work something out. Would you be willing to share the design so I can have a set made?

I wouldn't want to commit to sending them back mainly because I don't have a time frame on this, could be a week or could be a year. There are several guys on 120 who've done the swap, I'll check with them. If all else fails I will let you know and try to work something out.

If I'm able to make this work, I'll definitely share pics and whatever info I can. I think it will be easiest to build a spacer for the bottom of the air bag to avoid dealing with the air line at the top.

The RAS bump stops are 2" longer, so you'll have less up travel. New bump stops are around $70 from Toyota, these aren't required but is worth mentioning.

I converted to rear coils recently and I used stock 07 coils. Now with my truck on level ground and no extra weight my axle sits 1.5" from this bump stop and it hits every now and then on rough roads. I'm going to get 1.5" Daystar spacers for the back but I'm thinking about changing those bump stops too if the RAS ones are longer. From the frame my current ones are about 5" long, would stock rear coil ones be 3" roughly?

Yes, the one in that pic is the RAS bump stop, sounds like the same issue I ran into. You need the bump stops from a non- RAS 4runner.

Ran into this, looks like a solid kit. I reinstalled the bags, but next time around I'm definitely going with this kit.

Did you pull the sensors for the sway bar links? Once you disconnect those it will kill the system and flash the off light below the indicator.

There are two relays in the fuse panel under the hood for RAS, you need to pull those to disable the compressor. There's a harness behind the drivers side kick panel that can be disconnected to get rid of the dash light - don't recall which it is off the top of my head though.

i didn't pull the sensors i thought that if i left them in place i would avoid the light issue. so as it sits the light is not blinking but the compressor is running constant. the sensors were cooked. so i guess i will pull the sensors and the relays. am i missing anything else?

now the next question is where and what harness i need to unhook to get rid of the off light i will also include a pic of that so people can see to i will post later tonight

I think I read that it is in the kick panel by the drivers feet.

I'll look on mine when I get a chance, but the MT kit came with instructions telling which harness to disconnect. I just followed those and no lights at all.

Disconnecting the Ride Control Computer, Fuses and Relay if you’re adding a lift to your GX470/4Runner.
3.1 Inside the engine bay you will locate the fuse/relay box on the driver side. One the inside of the panel will have a chart showing the location of all the fuses and relays. Locate the “Air Sus 50A” fuse and the
“Air Sus Fuse #2” and remove them from the fuse panel.
3.2 Finally you’ll need to disconnect the Ride Control Computer located in the driver side kick panel.
Remove the foot rest and pull back the kick panel. The ride control computer will be mounted onto the body and will be gray in color. Disconnect the wiring from the computer and reinstall the kick panel.

just so everyone can see the clips on top of the airbags like the instructions say it is quite tight in there to grab them and it is hard to see them
