How to determine "in servce" date?

I'm edgin towards the end of my factory warranty and am wondering how to determine the "in service" date for my 4runner (a 2004), which I bought used earlier this year. Does a dealer have to determine this or can I trust the "shipped to dealer" date on the Carfax report as the in-service date?

I don't understand what "in service" means. The service intervals for the truck are every 5k miles??? I bought my truck in January 2004 and my warranty ends at 3years or 36k miles. I'm currently at 31800 so I'll probably get closer to 3 years before hitting 36k.

Before my warranty ends, I'm going to get the seat TSB done because it is annoying the shit out of me.

I'm not sure exactly when "in service" begins, whether it be when it was bought, first registered, or whatever. I don't think the "shipped to dealer" date will be correct, as I believe the in service date is based somehow on when the car was sold or started to be used as a demonstrator vehicle.

The dealership should be able to tell you for sure when your warranty clock started ticking.

The dealer told me the in service date is the day I buy the vehicle.

The "in service" date is the day the truck is sold as new to its first owner.

Your dealer should be able to look it up by VIN, or you might also be able to get that by calling Toyota Customer Service, 800-331-4331.

When I service my truck at the dealer, they have it on the work order. It all goes by VIN number.

It's usually the day the car was first sold. My service invoices list the day I bought it as the in service date. Like others have mentioned, you should be able to check this date at your dealer using the VIN.
