How to engage DAC?

I went down to Hollister Hills this weekend and tried playing with the DAC but couldn't get it to engage. I tried gear 1 w/ 4LO and DAC on.... no avail. I also tried D, 4HI, DAC on... no avail. Can anybody tell me the correct sequence in order to engage DAC?

I did get to use the Diff Lock and it worked great in the mud. Had the pregnant wife with me so didn't get to bath too much in the mud. Also I was worried my Nitto's wouldn't hold up. **sorry no pics... I know:bash: **

**EDIT** Using the search function, I think I found the answer to my own question lol. So in order to engage DAC, I must be in 4LO "properly engaged" and DAC on.... correct? I didn't know that the beeping in 4Lo was not normal :awais: :bash: lol. I'll have to try again another day I suppose.

If you hear beeping while trying to engage 4LOW, then I believe you are not actually in 4LOW at all. In the past, I've been in 4LOW and pressed the DAC button and it worked perfectly. You can try it again on any hill, even pavement if you're going straight.

It would have some use on the last (coming down),short, extremely steep leg, but it's really for low traction situations rather than the high traction of slick rock.

As depicted in the avatar, I used it to come down Red Cone, about which many off-road guide books warn ominously. Though the books exaggerate, it is pretty steep and loose. With DAC it was an absolute, no-issue, walk in the park.

Only while the foot is on the pedal, though, which is nice.

I don't think it's just for low-traction situations, but also for maintaining a slow descent without having to ride the brakes. I've used it without a problem on high traction surfaces that weren't even very steep. It's a weird feeling to just keep your feet off both pedals and have a completely controlled ride down a hill without gaining speed.

Yeah, you're right. Just because I might not use it in that circumstance doesn't mean it wouldn't be useful. I don't think I'd leave it on top to bottom, though. I'd want to make sure it was there when I needed it and wouldn't want to risk it deciding to take a short cooling break right before the very bottom section. Maybe start it at the top to avoid the endo feeling freakout and then give it a rest sometime on the way down.

Sucks that it's nothing buy a hypothetical discussion now, though.
I would at least like to have had the chance to chicken out.:bugeye:

I just got my 08 and was playing with it off road and when ever i used the DAC it would make a horrible noise. Is that normal? Also when I use the accent control it makes the same noise.

my experience with DAC

Is that I can engage it anytime. Although I normally stop before I engage it, at minimum I am going very slowly

2WD
4WD - Hi
4WD - Lo

it works in all of them

going forwards. going backwards, it keeps the T4R at a very low speed.

It disengages if I touch the brakes or the gas

I used it for probably 10 minutes, on and off last sunday

Its basically caused by your anti lock brake system pulsing on and off very quickly - while the car is sensing wheel slip and adjusting

I totaly agree is sounds awful when DAC is working properly, but it is way effective

YES ..The Sounds are normal You will have the sound with DAC and When your Atrac Kicks in goin up hill when one wheel begins to lose traction ...Just sit back and enjoy the ride !! Just keep a steady throttle and youll be amazed how well this system works
Just crep and keep a slow momentum.
