How to fix gas tank cap thats broken.

I don't have a picture on hand but a piece broke inside of my gas cap door, and it's one of the ones that are riveted in. How should I go about fixing this and if I can't do it myself how much will it cost to fix it and what kind of place should I go to fix it?

You're right, w/o pic it's kinda hard to advise, but maybe it could be fixed with a little J-B Weld.

just use some epoxy if u dont have a rivet gun ..... ur talkin about the V shaped thing that holds the cap in the door right ?

Are you referring to the hinge that holds the door to the body?

I'm talking about this thing. As you can see I tried putting loctite on it, but it didn't help :/

That appears to be a busted piece on the hinge side and would have to be removed to weld it back in place but then install with new rivets.....or replace it since you have to remove it anyway

A friend failed in Smog Test because of gas cap....

I think you'll really need to repair it back to match factory standard or atleast will look clean.
If it needs welding, I'll bring it to a reputable shop...maybe take a picture from a good gas cap hinge for comparison

EDIT: LOL! I just realize that its just a broken gas cap door hinge, and nothing to do with lost pressure through the gas cap when smogged, so how about gorilla glue :naughty:
