how to get maintenance light off

for 2008 V6 Model...

is there any way to get the maintenance light off without having the tool the service dealers use?

mine went on at exactly 5,000 miles. of course i changed my oil yesterday but the light is still on.

also, when you guys change oil, is there a gasket on the drain plug?

i couldn't find mine in the oil pan when i popped out the drain plug, but it seemed like it maybe their was a gasket stuck (melted?) to the drain hole. i put the drain plug back in and so far, so good.

if there is a gasket, how often do you replace it?

im not sure how to do it, but it cant be hard. the place i go to that changes my oil always turns it off for me, so again im sure its easy

It is in the manual...

I'm pretty sure it's hold down the odo reset button when you have the key going from off to the on pos *not start*.

It doesn't show on my OBD II tool, so you can't clear it w/ a tool.

The instructions are in the manual of my 2007....and like stated before, it's a combo of holding the odometer button and turning key to on position.

 

[Methodical]

set your odometer to show total miles of the vehicle

turn key to off

Hold down RESET button
turn key to ON but don't start.

Wait until the maint light blinks and eventually goes out.

Done

I replace mine every oil change. It always gets stuck on the pan. The pan is completely smooth underneath, so if you feel a ring by the drain hole, the washer is stuck on the pan. I remove mine by putting a rag over a screwdriver to scrape it off.
