How to go about getting a power door lock remote

When I bought my '97 the owner only had 2 sets of keys. He did not have the power door lock fob opener. The door lock switch works fine, but it is getting to be a major PITA to only be able to use a key to get in the vehicle.

How do I go about getting a couple of power door lock openers and program them to work. Approximate cost? Where to buy?

BTW, I just turned 265,000 miles and I have yet to add any oil since changing it 4,000 miles ago. :rockon:

My 97 did not have keyless entry despite having power locks, you may be in the same boat as I was. I didn't care much either, my 99 has keyless entry and I still unlock it with the key.

Keyless entry came standard on SR5's in 99.

Keyless entry was a dealer installed option for that year (through an alarm). My 96 had it. If your 4Runner has a little red bulb somewhere on the dash (looks like a little red light bulb) you may have an aftermarket dealer installed alarm. Mine was made by TDS and I can get remotes from the local Toyota Dealer.

you can always install an aftermarket unit. if all you care about is keyless entry i bet that would be pretty cheap to buy, you'll just have to do a little research to figure out how to wire it in.
