How to identify X-REAS suspension

The XREAS system has proprietary shocks. I believe you can replace just one, but it has to be the OEM XREAS replacement, it can't just be whatever one you want. You either have to keep XREAS and replace the components as they fail, or do the smart thing and rip it out & install whatever shocks you want. Bilstein 5100s are the go-to. I am taking out my XREAS this weekend and replacing with Eibach Pro Truck shocks.

What are the Bilstein part # for the front and rear for 04 Sport? Are these Bilstein shocks adjustable lift or just standard height? Do you plan to raise them? If so, is it just the front or the back too?

My Sport has 120k and I replaced the leaking XREAS with Bilstein 6112's up front and Icon V2.0 in the rear. To be honest, I wish I'd fixed the XREAS.

There are advantages to XREAS in my mind.
The first is the mileage, 120k on stock suspension before failure seems pretty damn good.
The second is how level it keeps your ride. When I hit the accelerator now the front end points to the sky. Staying level while cornering is nice too. Makes this four thousand pound behemoth feel almost sporty.
Finally, just the ride quality was better stock. Now the truck rides nice over some bumps, but is harsh over others.

Part of the ride is due to new tires, but the harsh moments are really harsh. It reminds me I'm in a body on frame vehicle and I never got that harshness with the stock suspension - until the fluid leaked out that is.

If I were to do it over I'd stay with XREAS, or invest in something more expensive. Maybe Icons with UCA...King Coil...I dunno, something not middle of the road.

When you say leaking XREAS? do you mean the actual shock? When you say you wished you would repair XREAS, do you mean the whole system or just the shocks? How do i know if it needs to be repaired or not? Also, if i want to keep it, the only option i have for shocks and struts are Toyota OEM parts, right?

When I say leaking XREAS I mean the shocks, yes.

When I say repair, well, at the Toyota dealership they didn't even quote a repair, they quoted replacement of the XREAS shocks with the stock 4runner SR5 suspension because they said repair was going to be expensive.

My sense of the expense was that they had to replace the shocks which they do in pairs - in my case all 4 - and that they then had to recharge the system. Because it's a system with fluid, if the fluid goes it needs to be replaced as does the gas charge.

I don't know if there are any cheaper replacement XREAS shocks other than OEM.

Could I just replace the front shock and keep the OEM Rear shocks, or is it if you replace the front with non XREAS, you replace them all?

Xreas cross links the corners. It's not a front to back or side to side system. 1 goes, all of them have to go.

Springs are also what gives lift. Sounds like you have more problems than just the Xreas.

Do a little bit more research and reading. Info is all in the forum.
