How to open the trunk on a 1990 4runner.

Hi,

I just purchased a 4runner and cannot open the trunk. The rear window key switch makes a motor notice but the window does not go up or down. Does the window need to be down to open the trunk? Tbh I am not bothered about opening the window I just want to open the trunk.

I got in the back of the trunk removed all the paneling. When I pull the handle on the inside it pulls the cables that runs to either side but does not open anything. Is there a Manuel override to open it?

Window has to be down to open it. Try the button on center console to roll it down.

When trying the button inside, try it with the truck running. It seems that gives it a little more power than just the battery when stopped, and that has helped me both when one of my relays was going out to the rear window and when the motor was going out. Also heat helps, so for me it worked better after being in the sun a bit than it did first thing in the morning on a cold day.

If you have it apart, you can apply 12v from the battery right to the window motor. There's just 2 wires, and one way makes it go down and the other go up. That will let you know if the motor is toast, or if it's something else (electrical, thus wiring, switches, fuses, or relays).

If the motor isn't working it, you might be able to coax it into place by pushing the glass up or down while trying to go that direction.

The other option is that the glass is off it's track or regulator. I haven't had that problem, but some people have.

Make sure your rear window wiper is seated right
