to get a good aftermarket paint job will prob cost north of 10k after all is said and done.

you could always do a Macco or Earl Scheib paint job

That looks really well done. There is a shop that does 3m wraps and clear protective film across from my work.
I've see lots of high end cars roll through their doors. Lambos, Bimmers, and even a Lexus LFA. (Pronounced "looks facken awesome")

I have noticed over time that the wrap material can shrink and pull back from edges, especially around door handles and other tight, compound curves. It is a lot cheaper than custom paint work though! Especially when graphics are desired.

I was suprised how well the 3m material held up to branches and light abrasions after I had put it on my aluminum rock buggy panels. It tends to pinstripe just like real paint!

Good wrapping vinyl should not shrink. Make sure it is cast vinyl and not calendared vinyl. Calendared vinyl is stretched in the manufacturing process and will shrink after time. Cast vinyl is poured so it will not shrink.

They is also vinyl primer that should be applied to the edges of doors and panels. This locks the vinyl to the metal and doesn't allow it to peel back. If the vinyl is really stretched to wrap compound curves it will pull back if that primer is not applied.

Never knew about the primer for edges and corners. I'll keep that in mind for the next project!

This hydrodipping in a neat process. Feels somewhat durable too. We'll, maybe as durable as paint it seems.

After spending two and a half hours just to wrap the front bumper cover I have a lot of respect for what they did there.

Of course they do it for a living and this is the first time I have used a vinyl wrap. It's not as easy as they make it look on youtube. :artist:
