How to put cargo on your roof?

I know this sounds dumb but I never really put anything on my roof besides christmas trees. I am thinking of buying this cargo roof bag just in case I need it when I travel during the holidays.

So do you put it between the adjustable horizontal bars or do I adjust the bars so the bag sits on top of them and not the roof?

If I put the bag on the roof, wouldn't the roof have a lot of weight and possibly push in?

I had something similar, but made by Thule. It was to be used between the rails (not sit on top of the rails). I found it didnt meet my needs so I quickly retired it to the garage and got a Thule Cargo Box (for when Im carrying heavy gear that needs to be enclosed). I also recently got a Yakima roof rack.

My Thule was used twice......id be glad to sell it if you're sure this is the type of carrier you want. Send me PM if you're interested.

Your ribbed roof can hold a bit over 100 lbs. I believe. The ribbed feature adds stiffness, so that prevents it from denting in.

You put it between the bars, loosely cinch the straps, fill the bag, and then cinch snugly. Make sure you tied down the excess straps or they'll flap around and hit your roof top when you drive.
