How to reach the DRL/blinkers?

Hi All,

The passenger side DRL/blinker on my 03 4runner burnt out and I can't seem to figure out a way to reach it by hand from either above or below, also didn't find any post/guide on this.

Could someone help give a pointer on how to?

btw. (would the driver's side be the same just in case?)

I found the passenger side one to be a bit more difficult to reach. Lay on your back with your feet facing the front of the truck, reach up with your left arm, as far right as you can. Eventually you will get there, yes the bumper/splash guards might cut you...

You have to go in from underneath. It's a bit of a stretch, but you can reach them by feeling up near the front corner of the bumper. It's also a pain in the butt to turn them.

You can reach in from underneath to just change the bulb, but I also changed the housings themselves recently. For that side I had to unbolt the inner fender liner at the front edge (only 2 screws, I think), and it made everything MUCH easier. Driver’s side is completely accessible without removing anything, even to change the housing itself.

Probably need to change the socket as well now as the new bulb went out again within a few mile's drive (and maybe the 3rd turn signal activation)

Yes, those sockets develop problems over time probably due to the DRL function keeping the hot bulbs on all the time. If you look at them, they probably are starting to turn brown in some areas, almost looking burned. Probably why Toyota chose to make those a 2 piece arrangement, so the wired pigtail wouldn’t need to be replaced, just the socket itself.
