How to remove A/C relay in engine

Hello again. I located the A/C relay (60a) under the hood, but i can't for the life of me remove it. not even with pliers. Any suggestions?

Installation/removal of the magnetic clutch (a/c) relay is just like a fuse - push in or pull out.

You may need to pull some of the surrounding fuses/relays to get a good grip on it.

On install of a new relay, make sure it is pushed in all the way.

Make sure you are trying to remove the correct relay. Not 100% sure, but I didn't think the A/C mag clutch relay was 60a. Check diagram inside fuse box cover, or search this forum for threads on this. There are several with good pics of the fuse box highlighting correct relay.

TechWrench - that could be simply my assumption (magnetic clutch relay) of which relay the OP is actually trying to pull - since this is a known problematic relay with its own TSB.

The relay is definitely 60a per the user manual. It doesn't give much at all, and i don't want to break it.

I think I had the 60a fuse confused with the relay. Basically the temp control panel stopped working, the MPG, avg speed functions also stopped working. I wanted to swap relays to see if that was the issue before looking at a new control panel. Any thoughts?

So how damaged is the 60amp fuse now?

As I understand it, the A/C Mag Clutch relay, located in the fuse box under the hood on the left side, only controls the energizing of the A/C compressor clutch. The usual symptom, other that no cold air from vents, is the A/C indicator lamp on the HVAC control panel blinks. Not sure if it is the cause of the symptoms you describe. But, if you want to swap it out temporarily, the relay that controls the fog lights is the same type. I know it works because I done it on both my '03s at one time or another.

If you look at the relay/fuse layout diagram on the underside of the fuse box cover, the correct relay is located on the right side and labeled "MG CLT". Just to the left and above is the Fog light relay labeled "FR FOG". The relays are fairly easy to remove, but the covers are somewhat delicate so use caution if you plan to use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull them.

You can try swapping them, but I don't think this will fix your problem. If I had to guess, I would look at the harness connectors to the back of the HVAC display, or the display itself.

All good info. Appreciate it. I swapped the EMI with the Heater relays. No change. They are rated the same. The connector looks fine. I reseated it and no change. The Lights behind the control panel went out some time ago. I'm suspecting the panel itself is not working. Going to swap one out and see what happens. Thank you all, and if you have any more suggestions, I'd appreciate t.
