How to remove/change door, map, dome and running board lights.

I have the LED kit I purchased on here but not sure how to remove the covers over the lights. Do they just pop out?

Any help appreciated.

well, to answer your question, most of them do just pop out. the map lights have to be pried out carefully but they do just pop out. you get your self a thin flat head screwdriver and pull on the outward facing ends. the dome lights come out pretty easily as well. the door lights are just as simple. just be carefully when your prying them out to make sure you don't break anything. as for the running boards there is no snapping or prying involved. just get your hands under the running boards around where the bulbs are and you should feel it. its just a simple turn and pull. hope this helps.

Not much to add (Acer0611 nailed it) except I had good luck using one of those precision screwdrivers to remove some of the more pesky covers.

Yep, acer covered it, basically. The vanity lights are pretty easy too, you'll see where you can slip the flathead into and pry them out. The running board lights are just like changing your headlight bulbs.
The glovebox can be tricky, it took me a few attempts on different days before I got it. I found the easiest way to get access is to take off the glovebox. While I was there, I took advantage of the opportunity to check my cabin air filter and change it.

ya i used a pocket knife for both dome and map lights and door lights just ease it up and pop the lens off

Thanks everyone. JA I checked out your writeup yesterday and it was helpful. I have everything installed but the dome and running board lights. One little bulb is in each dome light and I have nothing that looks that in my LED kit. Must be what is similar to JA's LED dome but mine is square.

Looks like I have a little research to do for install unless anyone can be of help.

JA's writeup is what I used to do mine. JA is THE man, seriously, thanks a billion for all the time you took to write up all those mods!!!! Do you mean that your domelight has 1 or 2 bulbs in it? I did a little research on sylvanias website that lists the bulbs and alternate product #s that they are often listed under.

Dome light has one bulb. I have something similar to the bulb and I think it goes in the bulbs place, which then attaches to an LED like motherboard is the best way to describe it. Similar to what JA's looks like but mine is square.

That makes sense. There is a piece that looks like it fits in sideways, then you can slide the LED part of the light into that. I bought mine all in one, if that makes sense, so I just had to slide it between the two "prongs" that hold the bulb in.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm hoping someone has an idea.

I've found some good info on replacing interior lights on the 4th gens. The only difference I've seen is that my 2004 SR5 doesn't seem to have the vanity light under the sliding panel in the pictures I've seen. Is it possible the 2004s don't have a vanity light? Or, if they do, they're recessed in some way?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe the vanity light only came on the limited and sport 4th gens. My ‘05 SR5 doesn’t have them either.
