How to remove Exhaust manifolds?

I blew a head gasket and am trying to get the heads off. I have the intake manifold off and just need to remove the exhaust manifolds before I can take the heads off, but I'm having a heck of a time getting access to the bolts to remove the exhaust manifolds. Can anyone give me some hints or suggestions on how to get the exhaust manifolds off? In the repair manual it shows nice easy access to the bolts but in reality, thats just not the case. I'm about ready to take a hammer to it, help!!

I haven't personally done it, but want to upgrade the exhaust so I'm interested in how to do it as well.

From what I have heard, you have to lift the block slightly to get access to those bolts. As far as a good how-to, I don't have any other advice.

I like the plasma cutter idea but I need it to all go back together some day. Has anyone replaced a head gasket that can tell me how to get the manifolds off??

Make sure you take the heat shield off of the manifolds first. It hides the bottom couple bolts.
Other then that, extensions and a breaker bar. And make sure your only using a 6 point socket. Those bolts get rusty as hell.
