How to remove exterior door handles?

Pretty much what the title say. Anyone have any experience ? I want to give a layer of black to match the wheels. Thanks

Take your interior door panel off.
I believe theres a couple of screws holding it in!

It's a real pain. If you can I suggest painting them in place and just masking.

If you do take them off, it's two 10mm bolts if I remember correctly. Remove the interior door panel, practice some yoga to limber you up-the angles you have to work at are weird, I think you have to remove the lock cylinder on some of the doors and some linkage. Once, you look at it, it will all make sense. Nothing to tricky about it, just a pain.

I haven't figured out how to easily take the glass out. Guess I just have to remove the rubber surround on the outside besides the interior panel.

Nope, sorry, the locks were as far as I went. Never messed with the glass...

I know its not a 4Runner, but i just monkeyed with the drivers window in my wifes Accord. Basically, i held the window as i removed the bolts that hold it to the window regulator. From there, i was able to take the window out of the door, from the outside of the door, if that makes sense. Just had to kinda finess it, and, getting it back in was a little bit tougher...

Did you pull it from the inside or did the glass pull out towards the outside?

I pulled it from the outside of the door. Thats what I meant in my last post... actually, i was on standing on the inside of the door, and was able to reach over the door to remove the glass from the outside of the door. i guess it may have been easy to do on the honda as the car sits so low...

I have to tackle this as well in the next month or so.... Replacing my wrecked door - trail damage, to a new aftermarket door. The handles and locks aren't too bad but I've been stressing over the glass removal. Maybe you and I should start a thread and take some pics along the way for future reference?
