Oh such a plethora of posts concerning power antennas on these trucks! But my concern has elevated a deeper need for a fix.
I recently pulled back enough of the inner fender lining to get to, and remove my antenna motor, remove the broken rope, then install a new antenna replacement into the motor.
This was already different from any posts I saw. There was a space between the antenna casing that mounts to the top of the fender and the motor itself. Mine has a barely rigid piece of pvc that fits in between the two. I had to glue this piece to the motor to keep it in place, then remount the motor and began the tedious "refeeding the rope" process. I lucked out a little because the after- market stereo I installed had a remote control so I didn't need another pair of hands to turn the radio off and on to feed the rope into the motor.
Now to my NEW PROBLEM...After a few months, my antenna started to come out of the top of the fender. I feared that the rope broke again. After getting back behind the fender liner I found an incredible problem. The motor bracket that was welded into the fender had broken off at the spot weld from the factory.
I know most of you are going to say "get a rubber ducky antenna and forget it", but I can't have something that cheap hanging off my LTD. I'd like to remove the fender so I could drill out the spot weld and install a bolt to mount the motor bracket. I haven't found any posts on how to remove the entire fender (not just the flares).
Can anyone tell me if removing the fender is possible, and how? Pictures would be an appreciated benefit.
