How to remove panel on rear door?

The rear door on my 4runner is stuck on locked. The lock cylinder disappeared into the door awhile back, and more recently the electric lock up front stopped locking/unlocking the back door. The window works fine. I want to remove the panel to troubleshoot, but I don't know how to do it. Is this even possible with the door closed?
Help please.

If the window works, roll the window down, get a coat hanger and slim jim the door lock. You should be able to open the door and then service it.

You have to figure out a way to get the door open to remove the panel. Its very easy to remove after that, pop the door pull straight up and off, remove 2 screws underneath, 1 screw in the door latch handle, 1 push pin in the rear. Pull the panel from the bottom and work your hands around to release. Tilt the whole panel to slide the door latch handle through its hole and it should lift right off. Good luck.

Does yours have a little handle strap hanging down?
On mine, you pop off that cap where the strap is, and unscrew the strap. Then just work your way around the entire panel, tugging until the fasteners release.
Then push it upwards to clear the window frame where it rests.

As someone else said, you might not be able to do it with the door closed.
