How to remove roof rack on a 2011 4runner

Ok guys I got a 2011 4runner and am thinking about removing the roof rack. It did not come with the roof rails so it really serves no purpose to me and I think it may look better without anything on the roof. Tried prying off the covers but no go. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

And here's a guy selling the roof rack delete hardware to plug and cover the holes............. Just did half of mine using those instructions to install a roof rack, thanks to the OP, made my life easier, those plastic cover were starting to frustrate. Then I remembered reading this thread a while back, quick search and life is good.

Thanks guys. Great information. Now I just need to decide if I'm going to do it. I took the rack off my 97 and liked it much better. My 2011 looks good with them but without crossbars what's the point? Also think it would look sleeker/cleaner without them?

Never mind that it's an 8 year old thread!!

They didn't delete anything in that thread except maybe spam posts. The OP in that thread used photobucket to host the pics.

It's a known fact that photobucket lost it's d@mn mind when linking hosted photo's to outside forums. If you want to blame anyone blame photobucket. (plus the site is currently down, probably due to the ridiculous pricing structure they implemented seemly over night)

But it's really it's the OP who you should be contacting. I wouldn't hold my breath though, OP hasn't checked in for 8 months, probably doesn't even own a T4R anymore or worse.....

went to you tube video to remove the caps and then removed the cross bars ... did it in 15 min on the removal. used plastic pry tools which in todays world DIY need these . no screw drivers...

you tube is much better on how to do a job on your ride than the forum.

forums are good for a quick answer for advice on where to buy or do a small simple job ...
I removed those bars because its a PITA to clean up the roof.. snow/dirt/wash/wax...

when I removed the bars I wet down the bars/rails.. popped off easy , water was the lube

antman is gone !!! he bought a gm vehicle .. I hope he has no problems with GM..many have had major GM equipment failures.
he was a good asset to this forum ..
