How to remove the hooks/tie downs on the rear seats?

Hey all, I've search a bit here on the forums, Google, and YouTube, and haven't been able to find an answer to what I feel like should be a basic question. Is there a way to remove the tie downs/hooks that are on the back of the seats in an 03 4unner? Like shown in this image here?

I'm going to be sleeping in the back of the 4runner and I'd like to be able to remove these to make things a bit more comfortable. I was able to remove the plastic housing but couldn't figure out how to get the hooks out, if it's at all possible.

if you pill off the back covers you will see they are welded on. no way to remove them

If you're sleeping in the back, a quality sleeping pad will leave them unnoticeable. I've slept in mine several times that way, and I'm 6'5", so I have bigger things to worry about. That's very clean there in your truck

Those aren't tie down hooks. They are part of the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Teather system For CHildren) and are required equipment. They are used for kids car seats. Get a thermorest pad and your G2G.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately that's not a picture of my own truck, just something I quickly snagged off Google! I do have a sleeping pad so I'll make due, just was hoping there was a way around it. Appreciate the replies.
