How to secure cover tailgate lock mechanism

Had this cover come off. Need to do my annual corrosion clean out and reapply fluid film.

What’s the best thing to secure this piece? RTV sealant or something similar?

Looks like the original used double sided foam sticky tape. Get the 3M brand. Comes in different widths so get the same as original:

Got to clean off all the old foam.

That's not double sided tape but more of a foam seal.

The two clips on top slip under the metal edge and the bottom just clicks to the latch assem.

RTV will work just get it good and clean don't over do it and let it setup before use but understand how it clips in first.

My detailer guy suggested the 3m wax product to spray in side doors.

I love fluid film also (as you can see). This vehicle was neglected up here in Wisconsin before I got her. Only bad spots are the Passenger front door and this one.
