How to Test TPS

Hi,
Check Engine light came on and code was P0120 (throttle pedal position sensor A circuit). I searched, but could not find a write up on how to test the TPS. My vehicle runs great, accelerates fine, idles fine etc. What else can I check that could be throwing the code. I did clear the code, but it came back after a day or so. My 4runner is a 2000 with v6 and manual. I have 156k and this is the first time it's thrown a code. Haven't done anything to this vehicle except general maintenance. Never have cleaned the TB as well. If it's suggested to clean the TB, is there a write up. Appreciate the help.

Thanks Mike M

I know you can put a volt meter on it and check the resistance, but i don't know what the spec is for the resistance. Also check the connections to the tps and make sure its not just loose. Other than that, its probably time to replace if the codes keep popping up. You could also buy a cheap one at Autozone for like $15-20, and if that doesn't make the code go away, then its probably a bad wire to the tps.

I had the same code about a month ago now. I checked the resistance and it was within tolerance. I changed the TSP anyways and the code and CEL went away. If it keeps coming back after clearing, like brian2sun stated, time to replace. Just make sure you don't strip one of the screws like I did...
