How to tighten a loose gearshift?

This one is simple: How do I get access to the bolt(s) that I need to tighten?

I took off the panel/trim/whatever, but it wasn't at all obvious how to reach the bolt that was apparently loose.

Thankfully, it doesn't interfere with shifting gears. However, it's really annoying when I'm four-wheeling. Not to mention the fact that it's always good to stop rattles!

May be shifter bushings. I replaced mine years ago for a rattle, but don’t think it wiggles that bad..

Thanks for pointing out this video! For anyone else who has done this... is a lift a requirement or is this possible with ramps or a jack/stands? As in a driveway task?

You don't even need ramps. It's a pretty easy fix, just gotta be careful with the rubber shifter boots.

Very easy to fix. You don’t need to even take off the center bezel or the shifter handle. It took about an hour for me last month to complete on a 4wd 4Runner.
