How's the reliability?

LUVDA4RUNNER

New member
I have always wanted a 4runner. Was looking at a new 5th gen, but did not like the styling. I ended up buying a 2011 Grand Cherokee Hemi 2 years ago. It is a great vehicle, but more and more I just don't need it, nor the $600/month car payment.
I am looking to get into a nice 4th gen 4runner.
From most review sites I read they run forever if taken care of.
How have your 4unners fared for you?
I am looking at a nice 2004 Limited V6. 1 owner, no accidents, just traded in for a new 4 runner at our local dealership. Has service records. Really nice shape.
It has 87,000 miles. Asking $15k.
Would any of you have any concerns with a 4runner with this many miles?
Any tips for things I should look for in them?
Price seem reasonable?
Is a particular year better than others for 4th gens?
Thanks for any help

Dunno abt the price. Miles are nothing to worry abt these things are built like tanks. I would look for a 06 or newer though, no major changes but has slightly different front n rear bumpers, grill, projector beam headlights and led tail lights lights...

Have you test driven one yet? If I were in your situation, I'd probably miss the power of that GC.

You say that you don't need the Grand Cherokee....but you want to buy a 4runner. How are the functionally different??

If you do buy a 4runner...Either V6 or V8 are GREAT engines. I currently have over 220k miles on my 05 V6. But no matter what you buy....get it inspected and look at it's maintenance history. Doesn't matter if it has 40k miles or 200k miles..if it's not maintained well..then walk away.

My JGC has all the bells and whistles, just not sure I need all that. Want a reliable SUV, just less $$$.
I am also looking at a 08 SR5 that has 54k miles for $21.9K

Reliability is legendary. 100k miles is nothing on these things. JGC's are crap up down and sideways.

I strong recommend you drive a 4th gen v8 before purchasing anything. You'll regret it if u don't.

starting in 2006 v6 got the vvti engine update! Look for a 06!!! Other than that my 06 runs just as it did when it was new! No rattles on the interior and great gas milage! Ive had zero problems.

I suggest you do the math.... You've already lost a lot of money in the Cherokee. Selling it and buying a 4runner may not be the smartest thing financially right now. I seriously doubt you'll save any money. In fact I'm quite sure you'll end up loosing money.

This has been discussed many times.

Price is kind of high. I paid 12k a few months back for a v8 limited with 88k miles on it. They're very reliable. Brake calipers sometimes freeze and and I have to change my u-joint.
