How's this for random?

Earlier today, I decided to clean out my engine bay. All the silt from Mojave Road was bugging me. So I picked up a couple cans of Gunk Foamy engine cleaner. The engine was warm, but cool enough to touch so I sprayed the stuff on, let it sit for about 15 minutes and then misted it down. After that, I blew the remaining water out with the air compressor. Waited another 30 minutes or so, fired it up and the check engine light starts flashing.

So I shut it off, and checked under the hood again to make sure nothing was obviously wrong. No moisture collecting anywhere, nothing obviously out of place. Blew it out again, waited another hour. Came back, fired it up and it was the CEL was gone but it was stumbling. Decided to take a quick spin around the block and see if it was just wet sensors. The CEL came on, so I hooked the scanner to it. P0120(bad TPS) and P0302(Cylinder #2 misfire).

It's a '97 SR5, 4wd auto, 3.4l with 198k on the clock.

I'm at a loss with this one. Any ideas?

Give it some time to dry out, you might just have some water somewhere you shouldn't.

I don't think i'd use WD-40 around electrical contacts. Just give it some time to dry out, you could run it to warm it up and let it dry out quicker.

I would think that a little short in the TPS could give you a bad reading and throw the code.

throttle body position sensor, they hate water, mine went out after i hit a huge water puddle, p0302 engine cylinder 2 mis fire, most likely plug wire or plug, but if your unlucky like me i could be a fuel injector.

Last night, I pulled off the air cleaner to give the engine a little more air. Headed out to the garage in a bit to check on it

Well, swapped the tps and put a new coil in. Cel went away for about a mile, then started flashing. Dealer only had plugs, so we'll just keep throwing parts at it. It definitely smells rich, so I doubt it's a clogged injector

My 97 4 runner that i totaled a couple months ago had that cylinder 2 misfire come up every time i went through alot of mud and water, im going to say its just water where its not supposed to be

After going out mudding one day I cleaned and sprayed down my entire engine bay. When I started it up I had CELs all over the place and miss fires on 3 cylinders. I let it idle for a while to warm up and dry things out. Then let it sit over night to completely dry. I cleared the codes and started it up the next morning and all was well.

my sparkplug kept staying on the socket so i used a bit of spit on the end of the plug to keep it from sticking in the socket and me having to take it all out again. Fired it up miss fire on 4 cylinders. Pulled it all out and cleaned them off used a normal dry socket to put the plugs back in. Started it up and all was fine. It takes a single drop of moisture on or near the plug to throw it off.
