Hub doesn't lock all the way...?

So one of my manual locking hubs doesn't turn all the way to the lock position although it does seem to lock because I can get it to burn out when in 4 wheel drive.

Even though it doesn't turn to the lock position it feels the same as the other side when it turns as far as it goes. By that I mean it has the same clicking in feeling it just won't go all the way to the point where the arrows meet.

As a novice I'm wondering if there is a lot going on in the hub and if it would be better if I left it to a professional to try to fix or if someone on here thinks it might be simple and I should go ahead with it? :drummer:

Locking hubs are an easy teardown and rebuild. WabFab on Yotatech posted a pretty good walkthrough a while back.

This tut works pretty good IMO. I used it to rebuild mines.

The most common problem is the grease gets old and hardens.
A good cleaning and grease job is usually all that's needed.
Check 4crawler.com, he has some excellent DIY info.
