humming coming from clutch!

Hey there, i'm new to the forum and have a few questions in regards to my newly purchased 2000 4runner. its a manual 4X4 with 79,000 miles.

I just discovered a weird noise when i down shifted to pass a car.
i was at about 4,500 RPM's and when i depressed the clutch in to shift to fifth gear, i heard a humming noise.

the noise doesn't happen when i shift in low rps but anything over 4,000, when i depress the clutch, i hear the noise. only happens while the clutch is depressed and goes away after i let out the clutch.
its weird that it only happens in high RPM's...
i can feel the humming through the clutch pedal.

anyone hear or know if this?
just wanting to avoid a serious problem if i can.

sounds like a throw out bearing. it should be replaced when you do a clutch job. it might be on its way out if you can only feel it at that rpm. but dont worry about it too much. clutches probably need to be replaced about every 150K miles or so.

Very typical of a failing throwout bearing.

Have a shop verify it.
Get the clutch, pressure plate, and pilot bearing replaced while your in there and either replace or resurface the flywheel.

If ignored for too long there is a possibility of the bearing physically coming apart which sometimes causes damage to the clutch fork and/or input shaft collar of the transmission.

I noticed the exact same noise when I depress the clutch pedal while at high RPM. I just replaced the clutch, litterally.

Did you cure the problem?

I hope you are not getting up over 4,500 rpm's too often. You are low in miles now but not the best thing when you get up over 100,000. Manual clutches are complex machines and shifting at high rpm's is harder on components. Humming noise, depending on if there is much vibration or not can just be a starting sign of a throw bearing. Monitor it closely and look for even small changes to see if it gets worse.

I do from time to time shifting around 4500rpm since I have a SC, it is very easy to get the needle past that line, you know!

I have no clue if the noise is actually coming from the clutch pedal or the clutch itself. And this is kind of annoying I have to say.

As metionned, clutch and all bearings are new from less than 1000miles.
All the parts are coming from Marlin Crawler.
