humming noise while driving

Hello I have a 2003 4runner SR5 V6. It is making a humming/vibrating type noise while driving. I don't really begin to hear it until I reach about 20 MPH. It sounds like the engine revving, however, when I let off the gas the noise continues and will get deeper in sound as I slow down. I came to the conclusion that it was the wheel bearing. I just replaced the wheel bearing, which seemed bad, and it continues to make that noise. about 3 weeks prior I replaced both the driver and passenger side axels. Any suggestions for me? Could i have received an axel that had a bad CV joint? Could it possibly be the differential?

Did you change both bearings at front?

I had a similar humming sound coming from the rear of my truck and didn't take care of it when I should have. I ended up busting teeth off my ring gear and had to have the rear diff rebuilt. If you can't figure it out I would let a mechanic take a look so you don't end up doing what I did if it turns out to be the differential.

No I only replaced the passenger side because the sound is definitely coming from that side. Also one thing I realized was when I turn right the sound/vibration goes away.

The fact that that sound goes away when you turn right (IE putting a load on the drivers side) makes me think that it is the drivers side that has the issue. How did you diagnose that it was only the passenger side before?

The sound was louder and sounded like that is where it was coming from while riding in the passenger side compared to the driver side.

Sounds like its either the right rear bearing or the front left is bad but only making noise when loaded.

While the general rule is that the bad bearing is on the side that is unloaded, this seems to be accurate a majority of the time, and a good % of the time its a reverse rule.

I would take the front left wheel off, remove the caliper and disk so you have it completely isolated, and spin the hub. If its not butter smooth, that might be the bad bearing.

Awesome thank you all for your help. After all the info from you and I also found a prior post where the man was having the exact same issue as me and it was his driver side bearing. I will replace the driver side and let you know. Thanks again.
