Husband got busted payback is a B, help me get him back (please keep in 4th gen)

Let me explain the story……my husband started smoking again and I found out he was smoking in his Runner (which is in my name). I told him if I found out he did it again I was going to do something so he couldn't go anywhere in it.

Well he and a friend went fishing today, he showed me a video and I was amazed to see his friend smoking in the truck.

One thing I am planning on doing is when he is out and about, I'm going to flatten his tires (thanks for the idea [MENTION=75144]crashman[/MENTION]) since I have a compressor and am looking forward to getting great enjoyment out of watching him from a distance when he comes out to find them flat. :spy:

I need some help with things under the hood that I can do that aren't too complicated, besides unhooking the battery. He has no mechanical knowledge and I have some, I have plenty of basic of tools.

So any ideas….que the devious laugh HaHaHa

Easy solution that requires no effort to remedy once you decide to let him drive it again... hide the keys. And then play dumb. The cost of a new key from a dealer will have him think twice about getting one cut after having to get the truck towed there so he'll spend time looking for his.

Half the time he can't find his keys anyways. I'm not taking it away, I'm wanting to do things here and there as a reminder not to smoke in my truck.

He has a very nice vehicle and needs to take care of it.

Stick a smoke alarm under the seat? He smokes it annoys the hell out of him and you tell him he probably damaged something in the truck? I think most of them run off 9v batteries.

Now THAT'S a terrific idea! Providing he'd never look under the seat (like vacuuming the truck out) it ought to scare the bejeesus out of him. That thing will be mighty loud in a small space like the inside of a car.

If I had some coworkers at the fire house who smoked, I'd would absolutely pull this in one of them, just for kicks... Alas, no smokers so I'll have to put this idea in the vault for now... :spy:

If you zip-tie and/or secure it to the bottom of the seat bottom they probably would not see it unless they reached under the seat and groped around. Also, how long do the batteries last on a smoke detector?

Another location could be in the spare tire jack compartment, find a place under the rear seats, and/or tucked under the kick panel in the driver's compartment. there's a lot of space under the steering column.

Don't just flatten the tires, but remove the valve cores. he won't be able to air them back up until they're reinstalled.
You could disconnect a few or all of the spark plugs.

Also, how long do the batteries last on a smoke detector?

During fire safety week, or any time someone asks, we tell people to change the batteries when they change their clocks for daylight savings / standard time (Sorry Arizona... :sobbing. But thats just to ensure there is always a fresh battery in the detector. They will last much longer. In fact, I checked ours at the house last month I think and they were a couple years old...:embarassed:

I am wondering, is there a single fuse in the Main Fuse Box under the hood that will disable the starter, where it won't even turn over?
Too late for me to go look in my manual.

That could be another option. Even if he tried to jump it off... it wouldn't respond.

The batteries will last almost a year in a smoke detector you will just have to hide it since he will be able to locate it when it goes off

I like the removing the valve stems I would put the caps back on after the air is out for more of a scratching the head affect

Smoke detector under each seat, otherwise take out the efi fuse or fuel pump relay. Wire up some piezoelectric siren to the smoke detector to make it loud, hide one siren under the dash, hide the other in the back corner. Loud and effective.

Former smoker, I kind of agree. My wife would not be happy if I lit up again, but seriously, she wouldn't go to the lengths of sabotaging something or finding new and surprising ways to get back at me. If she did I wouldn't still be with her. Consequently, I haven't lit up in over 9 years either, so I think the disfunctionality goes both ways.

I'm not the counselor though, so on to smoke detectors. One thing I read about is that smoke detectors only pick up certain kinds of smoke. I am not sure how accurate that was, but I remember I set the bacon on fire in the kitchen and our smoke detectors didn't go off. However, birthday candles and matches near by apparently do the trick.

4th gen related, isn't the starter ECU regulated? I turn my key and release right away and it turns until it fires up, regardless if I hold the key.

Smoke rises. Not sure how well a smoke detector under the seat would work. Not to mention that they are designed with smokers in mind. If a cigarette would set them off, then no one would be able to smoke in their house. Good in theory, but unless you can get one of those that they use in airplanes, it probably won't ever go off.

I use to prank my roommates by getting a cheap horn from auto zone and wire it into their brake lights. It's really straight forward, just splice into the + & - of the bulb and tuck it back behind one of the interior panels. Every time the brake light comes on the horn will go off. Really embarrassing and they have literally no clue whats going on.

hide cheap alarm clocks under the seats, in the hidden compartments, in a headrest, etc... set them to go off one at a time during his commute...
