You need to find a way to get him to stop smoking rather than pranking him in order to get him to stop smoking in the 4Runner.
Smoking is gross and smoking in the car is even nastier. I don't care how much Febreze is used either - I will still smell it. I think a smoker vehicle could be a dealer-breaker for me no matter how many maintenance records there are.

I had my hands on a cherry 05 v8 4runner identical to what I ended up getting except it had Borla exhaust, new tires and the nastiest, oily, smoke buildup everywhere in the interior.
The dealer selling it said "I'll put it on the ozone machine overnight". I didn't even go back. To get the oils out of the inside of the HVAC you have to remove the ducts, and replace the upholstry. I was getting a little sick just sitting in the truck for 5 min.
I passed, so it was a dealbreaker for me.
He listed it for 15,000, and sold it for 13,000 or 12,500 after it sat on his lot for 4 months.

He is finally talking about trying to quit, so hopefully he does! I keep telling him they give me headaches, bad for the kids health and a bad influence for our 15 yr old.
He's had a cold for two weeks or so and can't get rid of it, well smoking doesn't help. The rest of us had it for a few days and got over it.

Quitting is definitely ideal, he could also look into vaping as a safer and less stinky alternative

If he does go the Vaping route, I would recommend getting good quality gear. I've read a few articles stating that precursory studies have shown some of the lower end vaporizers leech off burned metal that is inhaled by the user. Typically the metals used in the elements are fairly harmless to humans in general, but there's some data to suggest that prolonged exposure to microscopic metals in soft tissues such as the lungs could have health issues. Not to mention while glycerin is harmless to humans for the most part, there's no data on what happens when it is heated/vaporized and inhaled as a fine mist by humans.
Though I will note that much of this still needs further testing and vetting, its just something that was noticed along with this new vaping trend. Though I would have to say inhaling microscopic particulates of weird metals on a regular basis is probably not a good thing? Though its far safer than regular tobacco and cigarettes by far and it can smell nice (one of my co workers likes melon flavor.)

I haven't gotten to get what you'd like to say "revenge" yet, sorry Lolrax but he's still with me and loves that I'm a strong woman that can take care of herself and not put up with anyone else's sh!t.
You obviously didn't understand unlike everyone else that did, that this was not out of anger and getting "revenge" but having fun and having a laugh, which he knows how to have.

One question: Is it your truck or his truck? Since you are married, it doesn't matter who's name it is in, it belongs to both of you. Hell, my last motorcycle was in my wife's name, didn't mean a damn thing.
Pranks are fun and harmless, but I wouldn't pull them over something like smoking, which is neither fun nor harmless. You need to stop and think about what actually happened: You caught him lying. Separate that from the whole smoking thing. That is what always pissed my wife off when she caught me smoking after I had "quit". I can guarantee that this latest thing wasn't the only time he's been smoking, in or out of the 4runner.
Get him to try the gum, the patch, or a vaporizer. Anything other than a tobacco product. By playing games, you are insinuating that you are just fine with what he is doing, and that it is all just fun and games and pranks. Either you are a fine with it, or you are not. Stop putting out and stop kissing him and he will get the clue really quick.
By not telling him straight up that he needs to quit, you are putting up with his shit, at the expense of the rest of your family.

Correct, I do think it's disgusting in general, I also used to live with a smoker who thought she could hide it from me and lie about it. She even smoked in my truck after I detailed it for 3 days, and thought I wouldn't notice :doh:
Not that I condone this for this poor soul. Seems he has enough problems in life.
But, in the past at work we've sprayed stuff with pepper spray a lot. Door handles mostly...
Maybe spray some quality pepper spray on the lighter knob/handle (while you are outside the car, and use gloves!)..... Soon as they light up and touch their lips, face etc, they'll notice pretty quickly and they'll need find a sink and soap.
I hate smoking, but I feel for the guy....
