HVAC control cable bound up

I noticed today that my HVAC selection (Floor/defrost knob) wasn't actually doing anything. It would click into each of the positions but nothing would change. I looked under the dash and saw that the cable had come off of the plastic selector lever. I re-attached it and tested turning the knob and everything looked good. I then noticed that I could no longer move the knob to the upper vents. I can move it as far left as Upper vents & Floor, but cannot move it to upper vents only. Thinking the selection lever in the floor was bound up, I disconnected the cable and tried moving the lever by hand and it moved without an issue. With the cable disconnected, I tried turning the knob again, and it still wouldn't turn left.

I know for a fact that the knob was going all the way to the left before, so I'm not sure what to do now. I don't think what I did could have bound it up, but who knows. Should I take the entire cable out and try to move it back and forth / attempt to lube it? I can get by for now but would love to have it working properly. I also had the bezel off to take the clock out, but I didn't mess with the HVAC controls for that at all, so I don't see how that could have caused this problem.

I tried searching and couldn't find anyone else who had posted about this issue. Hopefully someone has some good advice for me.
