HVAC Delay?

Ever since I purchased my Runner in March, I've noticed that the AC/Heat takes a minute or two to blow out cold/hot air when in AUTO mode. It didn't really bother me until the other morning when it was 27 degrees and I was begging for hot air but to no avail. Is this something that is normal and I'll just have to deal with, or is it a problem that I can get fixed by the stealer?

Mine does the same thing figure it's waiting for the heat before it fires up the fan, since the temp gauge just starts to come off of C before mine kicks up the fan.

The heating system is smart enough to mercfully not blow cold air on you until the radiator water has warmed enough. Works the same way as a gas furnace in your home.

Well then, I guess then its a good thing. I guess I'm just used to my old Honda that blew out whatever it wanted to. Thanks for the input.

Yea I hear you. They meant for it to work that by, but it is obviously not perfect. I do experience cold air for several seconds before it learns or does whatever to it suppose to be doing. Not sure why it does this.

On mine, the outside temperature sensor is inaccurate for a short while. It could have something to do with the system initially thinking it is OK to blow the air, then it finds out otherwise. Purely speculation on my part, though.

Yup that would be a good assumption! I use very expensive temperature measurement devices at work. They all need several seconds to warm up or whatever they do before reading correctly. I have never noticed the outside temp display in the T4r, but now that you have mentioned it

In another thread it was mentioned that outside air temperature sensor is under the hood, so it reads the engine bay temp before it picks up ambient air and shows an accurate reading. After driving for awhile and parked for 10-30 minutes, it'll show 80F when I first start up and take off. Accurate (or what's perceived to be) temperature shows up about 15-30 seconds later. My Taco does the same thing.

Right, although mine takes longer than 30 seconds to get to the right temperature.
