Hvac lights

I have a dilemna.

It started out as basically realllly dim backlighting, and I couldn't see the screen when driving at night. I then installed the neo-wedge type bulbs (2 8mm and 2 10mm). For some reason with my headlights off, the backlighting on the screen works fine, but once i turn my headlights on, the backlighting turns off and i cant see anything anymore ): Anyone got any clues?

btw this is a 2000 limited

did you go back with OEM bulbs or led? when i did my leds they only worked one way. try spinning them 180

I used leds... yea I tried the polarity both ways to get the light on but that shouldn't have anything to do with it being on with headlights off and then off when the headlights are on. Its like the switch for the light is backwards :(

You will hate me if im right, or maybe in return thank me..

but your symptoms sound like they have a simple solution that you didnt need to change out the bulbs..

on the left hand ride of your steering wheel on the dash there is a knob that you can turn. this is a dimmer knob that dims the lights of your cluster and hvac when the headlights are on/off.

this may be your solution for it. i may be wrong but sometimes its something just as simple as that. make sure its cranked to max.
good luck!

could it be a bad ground? did you connect everything back up correctly?

really man i dont know what to tell you on this deal. shouldnt be something too bad since they were working correctly b4, get back in there and do it again i guess. good luck!

Probably same crooked logic as on the Corolla. Ours does that, too, when dimmer is set to minimum.

Already tried the dimmer switch, its on Max and my cluster lights are perfectly illuminated (since it controls that as well)

FIXED IT.. halfway. I got the display to work now: i pulled the fuse and put it back in when looking for a spare 10 amp haha.

Now lets get the button backlights working!
