Hybrid front bumper options

Hey guys, I know I'm resurrecting a an old question but am doing so because I couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I recently purchased a 2017 4runner TRDP and was looking for front bumper options. I use my truck for commuting to work primarily and want to be able to use it for some light off-roading and overlanding from Canada to the States. For this reason I'm looking for an overland build rather than an aggressive off-road build. I also do not want to change the look of this truck dramatically so thought the lower profile hybrid winch bumpers would be a good choice. Researching these I found that there are primarily three that our on the market (C4fab, SSO, and Relentless).

I would like a bumper that offers some protection to the front end and allows a winch set up. I do not plan to place any LEDs in this thing so that is of little importance to me. Also would like a bumper that can be installed without any cutting of the factory bumper (which may not be possible, but worth asking).

Has anyone had any experience with more than one of these to provide a comparison? Does anyone have any thoughts on which one may be better than the other in specific aspects?

If you're not willing to cut your bumper then all of the hybrid options are out of the question. You will have to buy a full bumper if you don't want to cut. Look at Pelfrey, Metaltech, and Shrockworks.

Yea, id rathrr not cut it. I like the pelfrey and the similar cbi bumper. Do you know if cbi requires cutting?

cutting required, you keep the top half of the "gills"

As I mentioned before, you have 3 choices. Pelfrey, Metaltech, or Shrockworks. Neither require cutting. You will not find a low profile hybrid bumper that does not require cutting. All of the hybrid ones require cutting.

I have a SSO Hybrid on order for mine. A piece of the front bumper has to be cut, but there is a black trim piece that goes around the edge of the cut so it looks like it was made that way. Mine will have a Smittybilt 10,000# winch, 1 row of LED's, and a bar on the top.

I have seen a couple of these at my dealer and they look very good and look like they came from the factory. At 67# you can add the 70 # Smittybilt 10,000 winch and be at the same weight as the 137# full bumper without a winch.

I understand that you do not want to cut your bumper but it really is simple and easy to do. It took me 5-10 minutes to remove the small amount of bumper required to fit the Southern Style Offroad slimline bumper. It is actually just removing the plastic "add-on" facia that Toyota adds to change the look slightly in the "off-road" trail models; mine is the 2016 Trail Premium. (See photo #1) The cut edges are covered by an include "skirt" which is then flush to the bumper and can be seen in photo #2. I added the optional bar to protect the radiator and lights (which I used this past weekend on a moonless night trying to find a campsite and was glad I had them. Again, both of these are options and the standard bumper might fit your needs. I too like the standard 4 Runner look but wanted the safety (when large animals run across the road in the Colorado backcountry) and the ability to mount a "hidden" winch. And, as this bumper also only weights in the range of 60-65 pounds, it did not change the mpg or the handling of my 4 Runner.
