I picked up a newer set of 38x12.5 Tsls SXs to replace my dry rotting ones. I want to keep my old tires on the rims they are on for spares, so I got some procomp steelies to turn into DIY beadlocks.

Groved the middle out like this, then ill sipe the remaining middle and outter lugs.

Well after 6 years, my TG 4.7 gears gave up. Bearings and case all look ok (but I got new bearing anyway). Im assuming my 4.10 diff gears have something to do with it but too late now. I have a set of SUMO 4.7 gears on order. As soon as they show up Ill be back to crawlin.

My rear shocks are blown from running no bump stops and bottoming out for 6 years. I have set of the 13" f250 shocks and another set of ferd towers coming to re work the upper mount and a set of the same little poly bumps Im running in the front.

And a few shots from last Saturday in New Hampshire:

And measuring shock stuff. My current setup the shock stops the leaf right at flat. So ill make the bump hit there, and give the shock a bit extra so it wont bottom out. The 12" shocks (part numbers #34685) have a 16.5 closed body, and the 13" (Part # 34687) have a 18" compressed, so the new mounts will stick up a few inches higher.

Rear diff question

Any chance you might know if I can use the ring and pinion gear out of the rear diff on my late 89 sr5 in the rear diff of a 2002 sr5?

Thats a pretty loaded question. Haha. Depends a lot on driving style and where you wheel. I feel my set up is pretty good for my tire size, I really wanted to stay narrow. But any more tire size or horse power and I probably should have went with one tons.

Thanks! They were free lol. I figured Id try my hand at making some before buying some. tractor chains are expensive!

Got the rear shocks and bumps re done and tested. monroe 13" "f250" shock and f250 towers again, but this time so the shock doesnt bottom out. Made some bumps from some scrap and some energy suspension bump stops. Same ones Im running in the front. For $13 for the pair, you cant beat em.

I ended up making them a bit to long, but just trimmed the bump stop to compensate. they hit the u bolt plate right between the nuts when the leaf is just past flat.

I was told there would be more snow here (its about 2 hours south of my place) thats why the chains are still on. Another week or so up here and they will be off for the season.

You're giving me a lot of inspiration! I picked up a 89 pickup as a parts truck for the wife's 90, and now that all that remains are axles and a carcass I am entertaining the idea of making a bush truck to beat up around the woods. I might need to borrow an idea or two from you, thank you !

Beadlocks are finally happening. Had a friend with a shop cut and weld them on for me. He sent me these pics, Ill be picking them up today and hopefully painting and mounting them this weekend.

Heres a shot of my beat old tires. I've been running them for 6 years. 3 have tubes in them. Still have ok tread, but wicked dry rotted. This is the worst one. Thats the tube coming out through that gash, been wheeling it like tis for about a year and a half. Keeping my old tires/rims as spares for now.

My friend with the table did the welding also, as hes much better than I am. Also had him close the valve stem hole up so I could move it up to a more accessible part of the rim.

The back side, I used short 1.25/.453 stems and a 7/16th drill bit for the new hole.

They say to use silicone on the bead to help with leaks, but through some webwheelin, I found some one using this stuff. Says its flexable and isnt too hard to dismount the tire if I need to, so I figured id give it a shot. I did both beads just to be sure, and also 2 wraps of gorilla tape on the inner bead. Just trying to be proactive while everything easily accessible.

And together they go.

Im usually an all black everything guy, so the yellow ads a nice pop of color to the truck.

Broke an inner star/race in an original longfield, which also took the splines off the outer end of the long side shaft. Bummer. Ive been running this shaft since 2014, so hoping it was just tired. The bell still looks good so Im hoping I can rebuild it for a spare.

Also installed some super low buck rock lights.. lol

Long overdue, but got some real harnesses. Hand me downs from a race car friend. Harness bar welded to the body with some 4x8 plates and some right angle brackets to attach it to the floor using the rear seat mount bolt.

Been wheeling a bunch.. and the 3.0 is getting a little tired. Shes been nose up too long too much and getting a little knocky. Going to keep limping it along and start prepping a 3.4 to go in. Ive gotten 10 years of solid wheeling out of this ole 3.0.

Same climb from the other side. Local hard climb (at the jungle in Bethel Vermont) , this was my first time making it. I havent even tried in years because of how quickly it can go bad. But it was hot and the rocks were sticky and the wife and I strapped in and gave it ago.
