Hyper Sensitive Brakes ???

I know as part of the braking system, Toyota has something they call brake assist. I spoke with the dealer and they said it only work in emergency stops. From what I can tell, it seems to caluculate the speed at which you remove your foot from the gas and aplly the brakes. It then boosts the brake booster to a higher level. Only problem is that I seem to be a little quick to the brake pedal more often then non. Very frustrating. It sure works ! I can toss everything from the backseat to the dashboard in under .25 seconds. Anyone know of a way to disarm this ridiculous system. It also seems to take a full 2 seconds to return to normal braking after it is activated. Even more frustrating !

Its a good safety feature to have.

Rather than trying to disable a safety feature, you should try adjusting your driving style. I have never seen another member have complaints about this system and I am very surprised that it kicks in that often b/c it is not an extremely easy system to engage. In my experience it takes a true panic stop to get it to engage, I have only got it to kick in a few times on road and it is pretty safe to say I am an aggressive driver.

Maybe have it looked at perhaps it's not functioning properly. There's no question, the brakes are strong and there may be a slight 'learning curve' but if it's as you describe I say get it checked out.

As far as disabling it I don't think that's possible without compromising VSC and even then I don't know where you'd begin. As Blair said you shouldn't even notice it except for true panic stops.

I actually found this a bit irritating at first as well. However, it is rather handy on the 405 in traffic...with stupid people on the road stopping to look at something on the side of the road ....

Learn to give yourself 2-3 seconds/a few car lengths, makes it much easier when you need to stop quickly. The simplest solution is don't tailgate

Mine does the same thing, I just had to adjust driving style , although in the snow storms it can really grab ya. Seems like on my first pedal push it works normal but If I back off on breaking and then I apply again it grabs hard.

I has 3 college cheerleaders in the back seat and when that happened they all landed on top of me . it was horrible , but has to make the best of it.
