3 yr. old 4Runner Sport with 175,000k Perfect Condition

I have a 2007 4Runner Sport that i bought brand new last April and it already has 50k on it, and I plan to pay it off in 2 years, at that point, it will have 170k or so miles on it. I drive ALL highway miles and have receipts from all oil changes and check ups. I am trying to plan ahead.

When it reaches 170k....

Should I sell it privately to someone on the forum who will trust that it is in great shape, or use it as a trade in?

How much would someone pay for a 05' 4 Runner Sport with 170k on it right now, that is fully loaded?

Whether you sell it yourself or trade it, the mileage will have a big impact on the value. The truck will serve you well all that time, but you have to look at it from the buyer's perspective. Your truck will be on the market competing with others of the same year and with similar options but with a lot less mileage. Even though your truck has been cared for very well, if I can pay $X for an identical one with 50K miles, I'd have to get a really good price below $X to take the one with 170K miles.

Mileage does trump age. Places like Carmax won't even take in cars with over 100K IIRC.

Personally I wouldn't even look at it even with those Toyota badges. Imo the dealers would rape you on a trade in with that many miles.

I'd keep it for as long as it serves you well. Enjoy not having a payment for a while.

I drive 60+k miles annually as a sales rep. Jap cars are made for the hyper-miles. Go for it.

Wow, I bought mine with 49k 2 years ago and only got about 120k now.

And when you feel like buying a new car, put that money away in some high interest fund or account and save, save, save.
