I am starting to dislike my 4Runner...

i agree with clemsonfan15, & think that your at a point were only a new t4r will do. if you cant spring for the new trail edtion, maybe get a good used 02 or the sweet looking 03.
 
how about a total chaos LT?!
that would put a whole new life to your truck. not cheap, but would be awesome.
 
if you want speed just buy a 98+ camaro, they go for like $3,500 grand on c-list.

for $3,500 you can either make your 4R run high 15s or buy a car that will do low 13s.:beer:
 
I just did some research.

Horsepower:
150 @ 4,800 rpm
Torque:
177 @ 4,000 rpm
Transmission:
5-spd man w/OD
Curb Weight:
3,440 lbs.
Fuel Type:
NA

after my Dynolicious test, I realized my weight was off... I entered 5500 originally. After putting 4,000 (added weight, gas, occupants), I went from 160hp to 129..

I have my clogged catalytic converter/warped flange exhaust leak (which is just such a ***** to deal with) to blame.

What do you think? Even though I have the K&N intake and headers, can the cat/leak = 21 hp below stock? considering the intake and headers must have at least added a good 10-15... thats 35 hp gone.

HELP.

solving this just might help me stop hating the 4runner.
 
I know how you feel, Bodom. Before my last 4runner, I had a 4 cyl too, and it was way under-powered. What made it worse was that i got it right after trading in a 95 5.0 mustang GT.

What about a 1st gen tundra? They're going for around the same price as 4runners are these days.

Just got myself a 2003 V8 and I'm loving it. It even gets better gas mileage than what I was getting in the 4runner. I average 18 mpg combined highway n local.

where the hell have you been man?

I've got a buddy who has a 1st gen tundra 4.7. It's cool, I like his, Ivan Stewart TRD wheels and stuff. I've driven it a few times but I can't get around (even though its a small fullsize) how wide it is... not into that.

Thats why I figured a Tacoma might be right for me, also considering that its a 4Runner engine without all the extra back weight.

I'm honestly considering selling both the C230 and 4Runner and getting a new 09 Tacoma 4x4. I've driven these too and they're also pretty big... and the interiors BLEH to me... very cut pile chevyish... so I'd have to opt for the sport seats with the black fabric. I'd also change the tail lights because the 09s are ugly as hell.

Yeah, I haven't posted in a while, after getting the Tundra, but I've still been coming back n reading up on the posts, since this is such a kick ass forum.

The new tacomas are pretty damn nice! I would have got one too if it were in my budget. You're right, they are pretty big and wide though...not sure about the exact dimensions but they look like they're about the same same size as the 1st gen tundras when I see them rolling on the streets. I've always been into full-size trucks, but they're getting too big nowadays....the new tundras, rams, F150's etc. i imagine they'd be a ***** to drive.

Same here man! Gotta love owning the rare ones.
From what I've heard, you won't get too much more rwhp out of a 4x4 v6, the extra drive shaft steals a lot.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you're confusing the engine's power with the wheel's power. Lots gets lost through the fan and the drive shaft ect..... another thing is the reason the power seems like less than it is in the 2.7L is that the max torque is way up at 4000, the 3.4 is down at 3600, not to mention being considerably higher. IMO there should never be a engine with max torque so high in a truck or suv.
 
Those new Tacomas are very nice but very pricey. I almost traded in my 03 Tundra for one, since I needed something a little bit bigger for the family, but that's when I decided to get a used 4runner for my girl to drive and I can keep my Tundra.

But the 4runners have never really been built for speed. there just too big and got too much weight. I got the 3.4 on the 4runner i picked up and it felt terribly slow but I was making the mistake of comparing it to my Tundra. Either way I'm glad I kept my Tundra because even though the new tacoma tows 5000 lbs, I really needed the extra towing that my Tundra offers. i know the Tundra is wider then the 4runner but not by much maybe 5 6 inches, not as much as the new Tundras those are beast.

But if it's power you're after go with the new Tacoma or a Tundra. Because the v6 4runner, atleast the 3rd gen one is not that much more powerful then what you're at now.
 
If your just looking for more power then supercharge the beast. Checkout Customtacos.com and you'll find a wealthof info in supercharging a 2.7. The Tacoma guys are all over it. Especially the slammed/low rider 2wd guys. The new Tacoma's are sexy though. Ohh and those power numbers look about right. The engines power and power at the wheels are 2 different things.
 
i didn't even bother looking at the date... when i read the first post i was like, "UH WHAT?!" then i saw the date and was like, "ohhh... thank god."

How do I feel now... well, I guess now that the power issue has been addressed with the supercharger. I can always do the fuel mods to get that going quick for a 2.7, just lacking 4WD... good thing I live in Socal where i don't really need 4WD to get around. Not a huge priority, but will happen in due time.

I don't even know what to think. I wouldn't trade my 4Runner for anything just based on sentimental value. It would be such a nightmare to swap all of my mods to another truck now, not to mention I would lose intake, headers, supercharger, sliders, etc... the list goes on....

Gonna take a while, but I've got all of my 4WD swap plans, R series manual swap plans, and sunroof plans... this ones gonna stick with me for a while :)

Haha, yeah I found this last night while searching for info on the Tundra lift. Thought it would be fun to see what you thought now, since that was the very beginning of your build.
