I didn't go looking for an article to bash jeeps on, a similar article covering the same story popped up on my world news feed a little while back, and I remembered it while reading this thread. Sadly while searching it seems more than one model of jeep is known to catch on fire.

It's your money and safety though, so best of luck to you.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not here to defend Jeeps, I've just owned enough vehicles to know that all manufacturers have their challenges at some point, and obviously some more than others. I even lemon-lawed a Nissan years ago due to burning oil that they couldn't explain. Toyota is no exception unfortunately.

NHTSA expands Toyota fire probe to 1.4M cars and trucks

I'll just be happy if it plays nice for the 2-3 years I own it. :D

I honestly do wish the best for you, it just scared me that it actually was a big enough subject to be brought up on my world news so it kinda stuck with me, I think I couldn't get past the 50 miles thing. I am not a jeep guy, so I clearly don't know the differences between a Cherokee or grand Cherokee, but by the sound of it you really like the JGC so I hope it plays nice for you too.
 
You guys would be proud of this... my neighbor was in the market for a new vehicle and was interested in the Grand Cherokee and 4Runner. Not only did I give him a fair, unbiased impression on both I helped him with look up pricing and negotiate a deal. He picked up his new Limited this weekend. :D

I did... hell, the only reason he considered a 4R is because he liked ours and I talked to him about them. I've not had anything bad to say about them (except the ugly front end on the newer SR5/Trails).


There are worse things than GCs by the way. He was also shopping an Explorer. :brushteeth:
 
I actually looked at a Durango, JGC, Highlander, GX460, GS350.

Durango: interior just looked cheap, same engine issue as the JGC.

JGC: way overpriced for about the same features of the 4R & GX460, and that engine was overkill. it would just mean I would get into trouble more often.

Tribeca: was in the process of being discontinued.

Highlander : nice but I was use to a 4R (but I am leaning that way depending on next gen)

GX460: I would love to have a luxury edition, but 65k for a new is tad out of my league. even a decent used one is in the high 40's. and warranty work was 550 miles away. and that barn door :(

4R: same as a GX460 but less bling/comfort features. easy access to warranty work, and a liftgate/window.

when the 6th gen comes out, the interior features will have to be a decent upgrade or I will probably jumping ship to a highlander.

The JCG largely depends on which model. If you are comparing to a Summit, yeah I agree. Our Altitude, which is more on par with the 4R Limited feature-wise, was $37K. Couldn't touch a Limited 4R for under $42K out here.

I went through the same process with the Durango and GX and agree with you on both of those. Wife wanted nothing to do with a Highlander or any Subaru for that matter. I even tried to push her to a loaded Rav4... but we keep guns in our house :lol:

lol rav4, if it was the old v6 rav4, those were a hoot to drive. 0-60 in about 6.3 secs on dry roads.

otherwise, those were on par to a forester, noisy as hell and not enough space.

the daughter has one and that's about as close I can get the warden near one. if she doesn't get the new 3rd gen Tacoma, I can expect a beating and I will lose since she's bigger than scrawny little old me.
 
Yeah V6 AWD with all the goodies but she just gave me the evil eye.

We had a Rav4 years ago... little 4 banger 2WD. It was okay for us at the time and it saved my life. I got into a major accident and walked away with just a broken thumb. Was doing 45 mph and T-boned an uninsured foreigner that ran a red light at the last second. Impact crushed the front end and broke the engine casing where it mounts to the motor mounts. Did a nice little 360 that pulled the tires off the wheels too... and it was the day before our wedding.

I would go for a Jeep Wrangler, but everyone and their mom has one here in Oklahoma and even modded out they all look the damn same. I have only seen one other 4th gen 4Runner in the area that was lifted. Nice Jeep none the less.

They are everywhere here as well. Luckily there aren't to many in that red yet and I refuse to go with black wheels on this one... almost makes me unique.

Once all this crappy weather passes the top is coming off until late Fall.

Haha only pulling your leg, looks good. I've always wanted to know what it was like to own one. But then again I kind of enjoy not worrying if I can make it on long trips.

You fellas miss me? We had our Jeep fun and are likely getting back into a 4Runner this spring.
 
Ah, the Italians...known for making things beautiful, not reliable. I'm interested to see how these Fiat owned Jeep products hold up over the next 15 years.
