I bought a new Aisin elocker actuator

I hope everyone is staying safe out there and doing well. Brooklyn is pretty quiet these days, can’t wait to get out to VT or Rausch to run some trails and put my 33”s to the test.

Anyway - my elocker was always a little sticky and finally stopped working. I rebuilt it but it was heavily corroded and still didn’t work. In the interest of saving myself future hassle, I went ahead and ordered what looks to be an OEM replacement - the Aisin sat-008 for $300.

Technically it’s only listed for a Tacoma on Rockauto, but it looks the same and I think tacos have the same elocker that we do.

I haven’t installed it yet but I’m anticipating a simple swap. Once I confirm it works I’m going to seal all around the outside with permatex or something and coat the whole thing in fluid film.

Will update once installed!

I dunno, seemed pretty reasonable to me considering how much people drop on a roof rack or some lights.

Definitely want to maintain the one ya got, but the metal on them actually just disintegrates.

I’m just glad AISIN is actually still making new replacements vs buying some beat piece from eBay for $200

Yes the new replacements are nice for guys like us that maintain our rigs. Something like this brand new replacement I would remove once a year to make sure it didn't corrode to the housing. They always do that out here in Michigan, ive broken two so far. I did have success getting one from a member on here that lived in Florida and it looks to be in extremely good condition, i guess climate is everything.

Wow I need to keep an eye out for you when I'm in the city.

Maybe put a layer of antiseize on the mating surface. Once it seizes on there you are screwed. A piece of cast aluminum was going to crack off and shoot into my eye before my e-locker actuator was going to unfuse from the third.

Fabricate your axle to fit the new 3rd member.

Got the new actuator installed, it works flawlessly. I did a test drive and turned it on/off it 4-5 times and it’s smooth.


Only thing is the indicator light on the dash keeps blinking when engaged rather than going solid. I noted that the 2 prong connector had some green corrosion so I probably just need to clean it and it should start working again.

I also took the opportunity to raise my front kings 5 turns each (about 3/4”) to hopefully give me a little more clearance for the front tires. I know people say suspension lift doesn’t help clear tires, but I’m rubbing the firewall just a smidge and in my head it makes sense that lifting a little more should help that clear.

Hello JohnOfTheJungle, How did the Asin e-locker replacement do? Did the Blinking indicator light work? Thanks for your contribution. I just got a 99 limited and the e-locker is blinking. I just got it, so more then likely I'm going to take it off and rebuild it. However, any information on this part is much appreciated. 3rd Gen 4Runners are made to last, but like with everything, their population will decrease over the years and we need to preserve these babies. I also think the value of these 3rd Gen's will obviously increase because I and the others here love these trucks.

Repetitive cycling has cleared up problems on both of mine from previous owners not engaging them.
This applies to the push button 4x4 also. The sleeves that move to engage hang up.

not if you have done the gray wire mod, then the locker works anytime , even in 2wd

You can also do the Green/orange wire mod to engage at any speed.
