I bought an EcoBoost F150!

No, I didn't trade the 4Runner. I did sell my silverado. So I had narrowed it down between another silverado ( the last one was really good to us ), a tundra, or F150. I drove the gm's first but didn't like them. Next was some tundras. Then it was a 5.0 F150. But then I drove the EcoBoost. Holy torque batman! Needless to say thats what I got. Hopefully it will be as reliable as my 4Runner!

if you have never owned a direct injection engine before do yourself a favor and google search "fuel dilution" and also look at oil consumption rate.

Direct injection has been around for over 20 years and probably more, turbos will last long enough.

FWIW, I just got rid of my 2010 6.2L Raptor as it did NOT reflect the supposed increase in Ford quality. Loved the truck, but was taking too much of my time bringing it to Ford and fighting with them over warranty repairs.

Ford EcoBoost F-Series


One of our high-level managers at work got a new 2012 F-150 "Platinum" as his company car; and it sure is one fine truck! I have never ridden in it, but he says it hauls ass like a V8, has no turbo lag and gets better fuel mileage than the V8 version.

While I am "old school" and would likely tend to opt for the 5.0L V8, I give Ford kudos for squeezing out a few extra miles per gallon and maintaining the power.

How much extra does the "EcoBoost" engine add to the cost of the truck? Does it get enough extra gas mileage to recover the additional purchase price? Do you have to run high-octane gasoline in it? Do you know the torque and horsepower ratings for the EcoBoost versus the 5.0L V8? (The 2013 Mustang GT uses the 5.0L and it is rated at 420 hp!)

I am not in the market for a new truck and am going to hang onto my '04 Silverado for quite awhile longer.....but love the looks of the Fords!

Thanks for the clarification! I suppose that if I were in the market for a new F-150, my instinct would be to go for the 5.0L and perhaps add Flowmaster mufflers or a performance chip.

As it looks now, I'll be driving my '02 Sentra and '04 Silverado for a long, long time.

I just ordered the same truck for my work vehicle. The added cost was $750, but that's with government pricing (add another $300 or so for market price).

Glad to hear the positive review. I was sweating seeing something like "I just got an ecoboost and it sucks...," then knowing I'd be stuck with it for 2 or 3 years .
