i just purchased a 2008 sw5. it had low mileage and is in great shape. One thing that was a buying point was that the console had the headphone jack so that my wife can hook her phone or mp3 player up to listen to her playlists. However, this beast of a machine has a nav system installed by toyota (Elcipse AVN62d). This is one of those systems that is set up for ipods on the nav system itself, however i assumed that the headphone jack in the console would still work. For example, on my 2008 altima, i have to click my stereo over to auxillary before i can use my phone to listen to music. The nav system is a touch screen stereo too, however i cannot find a way to listen to my phone. Has the installation by toyota of this nav system bypassed the headphone jack that i need? Dont get me wrong, i love the nav system, but would love to be able to fix that for my wife.

Well i do have bluetooth already hooked up and though that would work. However, i called the company that makes the blue tooth adapter that came in my car and they said it doesnt have the capability to play mp3s. They also mentioned that i need to get another adapter to be able to do that. Can i simply get another adapter and just change the adapters out or do i have to redo the whole system if thats the route i choose to go? The hand piece is between the seats on top of the console. TIA

Also, i know that the back of the deck has RCA cables on there, if i choose to go that route, how much sound quality am i going to lose? Also, with bluetooth, what will i lose?

personal opinion, but when i use my bluetooth, i feel i loose quality. so i use my aux cable directly into my phone. i think it sounds way better.

as for rca cables, i think it would sound better than BT. and i am guessing it would be cheaper to go that route, so i would give it a try first, then if it doesnt work, try bluetooth.

ill reasearch your deck and see what i come up with. im bored at work and need something to do.

after reading the manual there doesnt seem to be a way for aux or bt. only ipod hook up. and cds.

my suggestion to get the best sound, is to make an MP3 cd, and they can hold like 300 songs. you can try the rca but that would be a question for someone else who has had experience with rca.
