I have alot to learn about my 2020 trd and noticed a camera mounted on the windshield. I thought the square sensor was the only sensor for the TSS that I was forced to buy. I suppose the camera is part of the system? Collision avoidance? I dont trust corporate and I know it is being recorded. Have any of you disabled it? Like disconnected the wires going to it?

Yes I hear you. I just bought a 2020 also and finding how to turn off the nanny controls is a new adventure.
You should be able to opt out of it.

If you think that your car is in any way recording video I urge you to look at all the manufacturers who have tried to put dash cams into the cars from the factory. There's a reason they don't exist, it's because they're not allowed.

It does record. There’s a paragraph on the toyota site that says it. If I’m bored tomorrow I’ll go find it.
Corvettes since 2014 have a video recording front camera.
Teslas record from multiple cameras around the car.
Many more examples. It’s certainly not illegal.

I signed what? I wanted a new 4runner, that's all. A new suv to go cross country. I never asked for this crap nor did the dealer tell me. Why do I have to tell Toyota NO when they should be asking ME for permission?
I called HQ last night and they deactivated connected services and I am going to a dealer soon to get the system completely deactivated, I am glad there is a TSB for that. It is weird some people do not mind being recorded and profited off of. I am going to install a remote start as well, not downloading their app.

Why not buy a 2019 and save some money? Same vehicle, without the nanny stuff, and more options for front bumper upgrades.

I happen to like the new features on the 2020. The adaptive cruise control has worked nicely for me, however the lane keeping can be annoying so it’s toggled off. The camera doesn’t bother me at all, I hope to never have to use it in case of a collision but it’s there just in case.
Face it we are in an era were everything we do is recorded and it’s not going away. I’m not fond of this but I have no choice unless I want to live on a remote island in the Pacific.

Did you get Toyota app that lets you start the car remotely and shows tire pressures and stuff? It also logs your driving habits and gives driving score based on it. Information is sent to Toyota (they claim it is not shared) for R&D. If you are on the fence about big brother opt out, disable and delete the app on the phone.
