I finally found a V6 4 Runner Limited 4x4 WITH XREAS! As it happens it is a demo (I know I know, its a demo) vehicle that has 3800 miles on it. I got it at $1020 below invoice. 37,600 out the door including tax and plates.

Only thing I didn't like about the quote was that they had a $298 doc fee, but we'll talk about that one :)

It sounds high

Even with Xreas and the side airbgas it's steep. In comparison, my V6 Limited 03 4x4 has everything except Xreas, airbags, and navigation (didn't want Xreas or Nav, couldn't get one with the airbags).

My sticker was $38,000, and I paid something like $34,600, BEFORE the $500 rebate (Working from memory here, I am not sure if it was $250 or $500). Also got 3.8% 60 months TFS financing, they matched the local credit union.

Granted I was a bit over $600 over invoice at the time for purchase price, but my selection was limited in late August for 03's.

You didn't state what the stealer sticker is. And you should know that the stealer always nails you for paperwork (conveyance fee). They usually will not negotiate the fee, you should get them $300 lower on the price instead. Buy no extras.

you mean the sticker was around 47,000? the vehicle has over 3000 miles on it? no way- run, do not walk out of the stealership! definitely do more homework PRIOR to walking into a dealership, otherwise you have nothing to go on or to guide you. good luck, but that is not a good deal at all. check out msn autos, edmunds, car.com, vehix, etc etc for the invoice for the model you want, and DO NOT deviate from your planned budget, otherwise you will pay dearly for it.
 
I would push for more if you can as it is a demo. Teh doc fees look high too.

Overall not too bad for the Bay ARea as it included 8.25% tax.

Here are the numbers from the invoice he faxed over to me.

32,186 - Base Vehicle Price
2,487 - Factory Installed Eqiupment (options)
6.00 - Fuel/Admin Charge
540 - Destination charge
492 TDA (Toyota Dealer Advertising, its legit, I looked it up).

35,711 Dealer Invoice Cost

Sticker is $39,734.00

Price he quoted me:
34,700
2745.60 Tax
298 Doc (I complained that it was too high, he said he'll do something about it).
20.25 drive out plate (buying this car in AZ and bringing back to CA)

37,763 out the door]

Financing term is 3.9% for 60 months.
 
The famous song said: "it's not how much you paid, it's what you trow away..." Sounds like a great investment. Don't look back, just enjoy it. Congrats and welcome to the board.

Hey 4runneraj: There is always going to be somebody that got a better deal. If you start obsessing about what you could or should have paid for your vehicle, you won't enjoy it. You have a great truck. Now go enjoy it.

First off, thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread.

To the folks that are of the opinion that the price is too high, could you please tell me what you think a fair price is? I'm just trying to listen to what you guys are telling me and not end up being screwed.

The price I was quoted was $1000 lower than the best carsdirect.com could do (and yesterday they told me they couldn't get me a Limited in CA with XREAS) and about $1500 lower than edmunds.com TMV price.

I had originally negotiated with this dealer to get a price of $300 over invoice on a new vehicle. This demo vehicle is coming in at $1000 below invoice, so for the demo miles it is being discounted by $1300.

I really value all the advice I am getting off of this board and thanks again.

hehehe no obsession here. I still think its a good deal on an AWESOME truck. I can't wait to take delivery of this thing. Only thing I'm trying to do is understand people's opinions :)

Well maybe a little obsession of where I'm going camping with my NEW 4Runner this summer :cool:

I think they should discount you at least $3000 for the truck. I have driven demos before and I know for a fact that people don't give a crap about them and run them hard. They use them to, "test," acc and etc. I'm not saying you didn't get a great product. My only concern is that they are charging you too much for a car that wasn't driven properly in the break-in phase. It is a toyota however and it should last. I would just assume that they would be happy that you are buying it and knock off another $1000 or two. Demo cars are not owned by the dealer but rather by the company...Toyota. So IMO all the money they get for the car is profit.

He's getting $4k off sticker - it also looks like a few things like cargo mats etc are being thrown in.

It's a tough one - I don't think you are getting it for a steal but I also think that if you want to locate exactly the vehicle you want you are not necessarily going to get a bargain on it new and may take some time (depends on how you value that). Given it has everything you want I would be tempted to do the deal - I would make sure they service it before you take delivery since its close to the 5k mark and have them put synthetic in it since its on their dollar. A proper detail inside and out including the engine bay goes without question.

If it has the dunflops on it check the tread based on other comments here and negotiate accordingly...

I hate that fee, it is basically extra profit, but if you get your best deal I find it impossible for them to drop that fee. Sometimes if you have a trade in and finance through them they may drop the fee only to make it somewhere else. For me I could not get them to drop that fee in my last three cars.

Another thing that pisses me off is the Escrow you have to have when you finace a house. As hard as I try to get rid of it, I have not found a way for anyone to drop it.
